Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

OK I have reset my ECU with the gas pedal method and it seems to work. I have a 5AT and is definitely shifting more aggressively. I do have a couple of questions though. If you reset the ECU and it re-learns your driving habits, how long does it take before it is set. Also if someone drives your car after it has learned, and they drive it granny style, will it change?

btw I had my car in for service and got it back on the 21st. As I was walking away to my car the service guy comes running up and says "oh btw we installed new software for your ECU and it will need to be brokin in, so drive it hard and aggressively". I can really tell a differnce in this new software too!

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

d3g, We're waiting for some answers from Nissan/Infiniti on this subject but my guess is that the ECU will relearn your, or anyone else's driving style, quickly. Some have estimated within a few driving sessions.. I don't know.
I reset mine about every 2 to 3 weeks and can notice a difference in shifting, because I don't drive aggressively very much. It may be beneficial to do it more often, depending on your habits.

This interests me very much and would like to know more of the reflash your dealer did. Can you contact them and ask for more details please, and post back here?
This may have a very big impact on other G's-- and i'm sure everyone will be interested in that report.
Thanks, and we await your reply..

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

yo gsedanman, I talked to the manager about my ECU being flashed and he didn't know what was affected by it. He was 100% sure that my ECU was flashed though and not just reset or something. He said the way it worked is, the new software is downloaded and on a machine, then installed/flashed on the vehicle's ECU. For some reason he seemed to think it was for adjustments to the air/fuel. mixture. Also he said the software wasnt for every coupe so I would imagine its just for the coupe's that first came out. Anyway, sorry I couldnt be more help on this.

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

Before disconnecting your battery to reset ECU, just a reminder:

On the coupe, don't disconnect the battery without lowering the windows. The windows lower slightly when you open the door. They can't do that if the battery is disconnected and opening the door may then cause damage to the window or roof.

Ivorypearl, Good point bro. I forgot to mention that you should lower the window(s) slightly to avoid damage when the battery is disconnected.

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

Always disconnect the negative terminal first when disconnecting your battery! Too many chances for an accident otherwise!

So, to answer, just disconnect your negative terminal. 12 hours to be sure, but some say less than that will work.

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

You'll notice the next time you hit the throttle. Before I knew about the ecu reset I was working on my video upgrades and disconnected the battery for a couple of days. The day I finally hooked it back up and drove I couldn't understand why my car felt quicker with more throttle response. Now I know.

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

Just to throw my $.02 into it---- Gordgee suggested 12 hrs. which is what I do, and some say less is good enough, but bare in mind that the ESM suggests 24 hrs! for a reset. Go figure.
TrentaCinque may be onto something there. Trouble is it takes so damn long. I've been doing the Easy ECU reset for months now which seems to be ok, but it sounds like a longer (24 hr) reset would be beneficial.

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

I got around to it...the reset...I have put on High flow cats, Stillen cat back, and Stillen cold air box . Even after all the mods could hardly get the wheels to spin from a dead stop. After the reset I can light them up and get a good curp when it sifts into second [AT] IT WORKS

Great news bro. It can really wake up a sleeping beauty./\
BTW-- did you use the short (Easy reset) or the long 12 battery disconnect?

Re: EASY ECU RESETTING

Yeh man, just undo the negative battery terminal overnight.
As you say, it would be dangerous to disconnect the positive terminal because of sparks and short circuits.
This one is the long time reset, and you need to reset a few things after you're done. No biggie tho, just clock, mpg display on Navi go back to ****, auto temp control goes to 70, trip odometers go back to 0.0 .
