How reliable is the motor

Hey everyone, just had a question about how reliable the G35 motor is after mods. I have a stock 03' and was thinking of adding a little something extra. I have been reading on this forum and it sounds like the Ztube and popcharger are a good combo. I also like the sound of the fujitsubo exhaust. I still have the factory warranty as well as an extended warranty and they tell me if I touch the engine it will void the warranty. I know they have to prove that the mod is what messed the engine up, but you know they can make stuff up. I was just wondering if I add these mods, how likely is the engine to mess up. I won't be racing it every day, I just want something a little extra.

The only think I have heard people having issues with is Cold Air intakes. If you go with the Ztube and the popcharger you should be good to go, and the exhaust won't hurt either.

Unfortunatly, your factory warrenty works that way, but your extended warrenty will have different terms and will most likely be voided by any modifications. I would whip out the extended contract and read it over before you decide to mod. However, if anything, adding a tube and a pop charger will help the older engine be more efficient and run closer to its specified operating temps (as long as you keep the filter element clean). Worst case: don't let the dealer see the mods and if anything happens, strap that old tube and intake on.

my tech at my dealership (who would be the one to raise the red flag on a repair) thought my intake was cool and told me about how a new g with a header back exhaust (no cats) had passed emmissions at the shop a few days earlier

IMO, unless you go FI, those mods are worthless for performance gains. U might get some numbers but you prob wont feel much of a difference. Unless you upgrade some hardcore all motor items inside and out. As for ur set up, you'll prob just be adding a more aggressive note to the way ur car will sound. IF anything, supension mods are always optimal.

i second just about everything said so far...
- my two cents - the manufacturer does not have any say on what you do after the cats. that leaves the cat back system that you were talking about in fair play. basically, after you've cleared the maf sensors and the 02 sensors, you are good. but the problem with the intake is that it messes with the maf sensor (possibly), and the intake charge and could mess up what is going inside the engine. so if you are at all concerned with the warranty, get your fujitsubo cat back system and enjoy. it's one of the better systems you can get for our cars.

The engine will handle those kind of mods with ease. If you are worried about warranty go with Stillen. Factory backs them. Besides the exhaust is the best engineered one on the market. Call them and check it out.

The VQ is (and has been for years) one of the best engines in the world. Simple bolt-ons won't hurt that reliability, and shouldn't affect your warranty either, provided the mods are done correctly.

If you're worried about doing the work yourself, then find a mod friendly dealer to ask his advice and/or have him do the mods.
These mods are fairly basic needing few tools and little expertise, but won't cost a lot to have them installed for you.

Major mods like F/I is another story.

C.

nissan/infiniti does not back stillen. your dealer may extend their warranty to you. but it is not supported by the 'factory'.

i will reiterate - there are no mods that you can do to the car that will won't introduce the possibility of doubt into whether or not the warranty will be voided for a particular symptom, except a cat-back exhaust system.
we all understand the magnussen-moss act. (if we don't, we should read it)
if you change your intake and you start pinging, it gives the factory a leg up on you. if you concerned you may not be able to hold your own, don't get it. if this doesn't concern you, by all means mod your car... i did, and i love it... at my own risk...

bottom line: risk vs reward.

I work for Nissan, and pretty much any high quilty intake system ( I.E. Injen, AEM, Stillen, ect.) will not void your warranty. Although it Technicly by the book DOES VOID your warranty, the installation of intakes and exhaust systems have become so common and advanced that most dealer service centers Shouldn't give you a problem. Remember when your trying to get a warranty repair to your car, every dealer has a warranty specialist or manager of some sort that makes the desition on weather or not to warranty it, if hes a real ***** or A$$ H*$% then he may not let you go. If your Extanded warranty contract is through Nissan it should be pro-rated, and if you want you can cancel early and get your money back for the portion of the contract that you havent used yet. Also on a side note, i do have an Injen CAI and I love it, sounds great and added a nice gain in power.
