To much oil will create oil foaming resulting in less protection, oil leaks due to pressure build up, & oil by-pass, all of which could create Internal problems. Drain the excess oil

Dont forget, when doing an oil change and replacing the filter, your dipstick may read a little high until you run the engine for a few minutes and the new oil fills up the new oil filter.

When changing my 05's oil and filter, 5 quarts does the trick, and after running the engine for a few minutes, shutting down and then waiting another few minutes for the oil to settle in the pan it reads right in the middle of high and low.

Oh, and make sure, when replacing the oil filter that the seal from the old filter doesnt stay on the car, two seals means big problems :-). I did that on my Nova 10 years ago when I was 16. heh, it was messy

I put about 5 1/2 qrt's in my G35, should I drain a little? Haven't had a chance to check the dipstick yet.

after running the engine, getting a good reading on the stick is hard. I try to wait till morning when all the oil has drained back into the crankcase and off the dipstick. With clean oil, it's very difficult to see the oil line.

If you have to check it at a gas station when filling, make sure to wipe off the stick a few times and dip it all the way in to get an accurate reading.

.......and overfilling the crankcase will cause the moving parts of the engine such as crankshaft, rods etc, to splash excessively in the high oil level and cause foaming which then in turn cause air to enter the oiling system and feed critical engine components with air instead of oil.
This would cause the oil pressure to drop drastically thus doing serious damage.

C.
