Plenium or Plenium Spacer
Plenium or Plenium Spacer
WHich is the better path to choose? There is a writeup in the DEC 05 MODIFIED Mag about this Plenium spacer. It yielded an additional 13 horsepower on a 350Z. The spacer retails for $269.00.
Does anyone have this installed?
Or is Purchasing a full plenium from say either APS or Crawford a better purchase? I have to say... Thats a lot of HP for only $269 bucks!!!
Which one do I purchase?
I have an 04 6MT. I am considering a catback with test pipes, headers and high flow cats. Which will be the best route to go?

for an 03 and 04, a plenum mod is one of the easiest ways to gain hp...
crawford plenums and all the others spacers basically do the same thing(increase the whole volume of the intake plenum).
i have a used one if anyones interested

1) Convince the big guys at Sport Z Magazine to allow me to do a shootout article.
2) Sport Z agree's to pay the money to do the shootout.
3) Contact all the companies who make the test products, typically three months to a year before the shootout. Most are more than willing to participate. Some tell us to get lost, some doesn't return our calls or email and then act surprised that we didn't get their "official approval".
4) Find some great guys who'll let you use their Gs and Zs for testing.
5) Call in some favors from a few friends who are willing to donate their Saturday evaluating, installing and un-installing various performance products.
6) Compile the data, review it, crunch it, re-review it, try to make sense out of it, develop spreadsheets, and write the article.
7) Edit and re-edit the shootout's content.
8) Publish the results of > 100 hours of work.
9) Let forum members know the articles will be available soon.
10) Hope it's well accepted and more people buy this issue and subscribe to Sport Z Magaine because of it. (Stand-by for "flaming" as someone surely will find fault with the article.)
So Steve please forgive me if I'm not willing to give away the results. They aren't secret, you'll find them in the Winter 2006 Issue of Sport Z Magazine.

Let us know how the Vortech handles the 1/2 spacer. Are you planning to change spark plugs?

I would go with the spacer. I have done intensive research regarding this vs. the plenum on the 03 and 04 coupe. I think its better choice due to its stealthiness, power gains and price in combination
After just having a car show on Saturday with 33 G35's in attendance I can tell you that the plenum spacer will gain you almost no points in the coolness factor category. The plenum actually dresses up the engine bay and looks like you've got a mod under the hood while the spacer can not be seen unless you know what you're looking for.
They both do about the same thing performance wise in 2003 and 2004 G35's, so if you're looking for a less expensive, stealthy mod, get the spacer. If you're looking for a good looking mod that creates an equal pressure drop through all 6 cylinders, get the plenum. The hp/tq numbers are all about identical when doing a mod for mod comparison. For 2005 G35's the spacer mod vs. the plenum mod, well the spacer does squat by itself. Even the guy who sells the mod will agree to this (and has publically). The guy who makes the plenum has dynoed it and showed gains on the 2005.
There has been a long war going on over which mod is 'better'. Bottom line is the war topic always gets ugly and I've tried to stay out of it this go around. I suggest you do the same.
(this advice also applies to any underdrive pulley related thread

i had a crawford plenum in my 05 6mt...
when the plenum was the only mod in my car, i def. felt a little gain in hp(low end). but then i decided i wanted more and installed a megan Y-pipe...
thats when i noticed a drop in hp...
in my opinion, the plenum combined with a Y-pipe is not a good idea, theres just too much air flow for a N/A car...
so i tried putting in my stock plenum and i gain some hp back.
now im wondering, if i put my stock y pipe in, will i gain some more hp back?
i've realized, the stock 05 6mt engines are finely tuned and its easy to lose hp by putting in the wrong mod
