Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine

So there might be a dual exust sytem for the G35 coming out that looks like the one on the Coupe? Why does the sedan weigh less than the coup? I thought the coupe would weight less? Am I the only one that finds this odd? So would this mean if I get my G35 sedan to about 280hp and 273 torque I can smoke the coupe and maybe even the Z?

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine

I guess that's why nissan chose to give the coupe more hp.... they wanted the coupe to be the more attractive one..... no sense in paying extra for the coupe when the sedan can out-run, out-turn, out-handle, and basically out-do the coupe in everything else........ I guess that'll happen when I manage to get the coupe's intake and exaust to fit my sedan...... MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.......

Sedanman, your Cd figures are off. The coupe is 0.29, or 0.28 with the Aero Package. The sedan is 0.27, or 0.26 with the Aero Pacakge.

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine

The reason the coupe is havier is because of the extra rigidity it takes to make a coupe than a sedan. Also bigger wheels, wider tires, larger exhaust. Performance wise - coupe is still faster in all tests. Coupe definitely has better handling.

And looks wise - there's no comparison.

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine

The Z and Coupe engines are exactly the same! No hotter cams, no better intake, slightly different exhaust routing.

The 7hp is paper marketing only. This is straight from the engineers and reinforced through our training with the factory reps. They even fed us the rumor of making more power than Infiniti claims, but won't stand behind it.

So, the Z has NOTHING on the coupe! The sedan is a different story, less timing advance= less power.

Well, nothing in terms of power. But it does have less wieght and a shorter drive shaft.

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine

hey stewa101, if the sedan manages to get the missing 20 hp and 10 lb/ft of torque, which do you think is going to go faster, the sedan or the coupe???? just wondering.....

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine

At the San Francisco car show I over heard the infiniti rep bragging about how the G actually had more power then the Z.

It was funny to listen to him. he also mentioned how the whole Z was designed off of the G35 coupe. If the g35 didn't come out then the Z would of never took shape. He also said the G was lighter.

I don't care which one is faster or lighter, I just knew that I could fit a baby seat in the back of the G and not the Z.

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine

YES! If you get the timing to advance to the degree it does in the coupe, the sedan will pick up the missing power. You will have to use premium fuel. It's only an EPROM or an ECU away.

The exhaust on the sedan is much more restrictive in design and is hiding some ponies compared to the Z and coupes mid exhaust layout. It's incredible to see them both up on lifts next to each other.(coupe and sedan)

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine

As to the heft of the coupe compared to the Z...
Start by taking out the back seat, but don't stop there.

Soon you'll be lighter. Seriously, The back seat mod is first on my list. No loss, the Z has no back seat and the seat in the coupe is for the children I don't have.
I'm a racecar driver and modify more than most, but I understand differences of opinion regarding how far to take it.

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine

you should start from a Z and stripe down if you don't need your backseat. The backseat isn't the only weight problem you have. There are just that much of things you can get them out of your car. At end, a coupe is still 200lb heavy than a Z with same level of stripping.

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine

plus if you do too much weight stripping without careful planing, you will destroy the near perfect weight distribution... that's a pretty big factor on handling, isn't it???
