Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine
The G35C will definitely be nicer than the Z, I own the Z and the G35 sedan and the G35 interior is in a class well above the Z when it comes to ride/comfort and practicality. The Z engine is much louder than the G35 and is the Z tuned to sound more like a sports car. With a few mods on the sedan, I am sure it will easily hang with the Z.

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine
This is the big question. What can be done to the G35c to bring its performance inline with the 350Z+ and will the tuners focus on the 350Z more than the G35?
I just read an article in Sport Compact Car Magazine that says there isn't much room for improvement in the 350's exhaust. The call is for the tuners to go to work on the engine with a turbo charger, etc. What is the likelihood this will work for the G35 as well?

Any thoughts?

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine
I think a turbo charger is not the answer the G35 drivers are looking for.
If they make a Turbo for the Z, chances are very good that
it will work for the G35.
The big problem for a G35 new car owners is that this will void your factory warranty.
Once the dealer service department sees you put a turbo on the engine, all warranty bets are off. If you have any engine problems, they will blame it on the turbo.
What I am hoping for is to find a way to get a 14.0 quarter time without doing anything major (noticable by the dealer) to the engine.
K&N currently makes a special intake for the Lexus IS300.
Hopefully they will come around and make one for the G35.
A different exhaust may give a little, but that depends on how well Borla ect. do on it.
Other than the Intake and exhaust, that is about all you can do. Possible reprogramming of the computer may do something. Some people can get really good at moving the gears, which could shave a 1/10th or 2/10ths off their time.
My car still has 59K of warranty left and I would not rip into the motor until that warranty expires.

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine
Right now we are looking at the possibility of the supercharger for the Z and G35. Now is it going to be easy or is there enough room? Not really...
Nothing will happen right away but we are definetly looking into it and asking the experts opinion. I think turbo is out of the questions unfortunately. I would love to see a turbo model!

you mis-read that article. The problem was that the exhaust was just a random piece stuck on .. it wasn't designed for the car. With intakes and exhausts, tuning comes into play a LOT and no one exhaust is perfect the first time around. This is why certain cheaper brands actually diminish performance.. they're there just for looks / sound. Just cause it sounds like a kazoo on steroids doesnt mean it makes your car any faster. an intake and exhaust is more like a musical instrument with very finely tuned components that need to work in unison with the specific engine. I'm sure once the Z / G35 are out for a bit longer, there will be better exhausts for it.

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine
I think the supercharger is a viable option. However, I also read from a Japanese magazine that people in Japan worry more about the displacement and fuel cost. As such, they may go with the VQ30DET on a souped-up version of the Z. (May be one more T.)

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine
strip the interior out if you want low 14's or maybe high 13's. The G35 sedan already does high 14's going by djrezin8 time slips.
someone mentioned that the Z has a better intake system. I looked at the Z's side by side to my g35coupe. The intake system on the G35coupe looked better. The g35 intake system even had the air ram that goes right below the hood.

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine
Engine to engine doesn't the Z just put out like 7hp more than the coupe? In terms of seat of the pants, 7hp alone is hardly noticable. 2.5% in hp, you probably get that variability from car to car. I think the biggest difference in times between the cars is weight. Not sure of the exact numbers but isn't the coupe a few hundred pounds heavier? Also I know the Z uses a carbon fiber drive shaft, does the coupe? Reducing the rotational inertia of driveline parts can significantly increase the RWHP. I have a friend that put an aluminum driveshaft on his mustang and dyno'd an 11 hp increase and torque across the board.

Re: Z Engine Vs G35 Engine
The 350Z weighs 3188 to 3247lbs
The G Coupe weighs 3435
The G Sedan weighs 3369
Go figure the sedan weighs less than the coupe?

It's mid 14's... get it straight! 14.51 to be exact.... that's with a stillen exaust on it. I was looking last night when I was putting my Eibach Pro Kit on it and noticed that it would be rather easy to put a dual exaust on the Sedan. I'm going to look into it for mine. Maybe Borla will come out with a catback system that will make it dual.
