engine cover w/ 5/8" skunk2 plenum spacer

hey guys, i'm looking to get a plenum spacer, and there are some good deals out there w/ the skunk 2. i know they don't sell as well as the MD because for one MD is the original creator of the product, but also they make a size that can actually be used with the stock engine cover. my question is, is there any possible way to keep the stock engine cover w/ the 5/8" skunk2 spacer? i heard if you take some of the stuff off your engine cover like some washers or something, you can gain more clearance room. but that's w/ the 1/2" MD spacer. how bout the skunk 2?

You can use your engine cover with a MotorDyne 5/16" spacer. I think if you will read some more you will find that the MD spacers don't just sell well because they are the original, their quality, customer service, etc. is just better than Skunk2.

No, I have not tried a Skunk2 spacer. I am basing this conclusion on many other user posts. I do not recall if the Skunk2 was a part of the Sport Z magazine plenum shootout, but if you search around and find the results I think you will really want the MotorDyne.

It convinced me to buy the 5/16" MD spacer.

EDIT - I do not know for sure but I would figure that you can't use the engine cover with a 5/8" spacer because it is thicker than a 1/2" spacer and the engine cover won't fit on a 1/2" spacer.

why are you digging up 3 year old threads to post false info?

If the Skunk spacer is 5/8" as discussed in the other thread you posted in - then no, an OEM G35 engine cover will not fit.

since you're posting in every thread about the topic - I'll just copy my response on the other thread that you posted the same thing in:

You should really stop posting for Skunk2 - you are a horrible rep for them.

That method of using the cover is the most absurd thing I've seven seen.

I've never understood why people are concerned with running a cover with a spacer anyway... the idea of a spacer is performance - if you care about performance you're going to remove the cover anyway. Why add plenum volume to get air to the front runners if you are going to trap engine heat under the cover to heat the plenum?

stock cover fits but it will scratch the underside of your hood. So if you want to scratch your hood then install the cover, if not leave the cover off and polish the plenum.

stock cover will fit in the G sedan with a 5/8" spacer...has a very tough time fitting with the coupe without modification

That aside, I gained 4 whp with the Motordyne 1/2" spacer over the BLOX 5/8" spacer (which is better than the skunk2).

its too bad no one can post pics of engine cover on with more than 1/2" spacer and hood closed...

Actually = the hood is probably bulging..

I suppose you can make (oooops I mean force) anything to fit

No skunk2 wasnt part of it. they somehow were never notified about it even though they sent one in that arrived a day late. theres a thread discussing it on my350z i think. interesting read.

I would say get the MD.

I never had a single problem with the cover & hood closing properly. Looked completely stealth. It didn't bulge the hood, it wasn't forced.

+1 hood closed fine with the cover on but like red35 said it slightly rubbed on 2 small spots near the back of the hood.

^^^ I would imagine there wold be significant rubbing...

1/2" barely fits with the grommets inverted... 5/8" cant possibly clear without rubbing - especially not without altering the grommets (I wouldn't use drilled coins though )
