MREV+ and CCV

For those of you who have opted for the MREV+ mod, did you install the CCV as well? Is it necessary? Is the benefit worthwhile?

The installation of the CCV is not necessary. It simply helps keep the air entering the plenum cooler, which limits the amount of power robbing heat.

According to the instructions, it can be used to restrict the coolant flow to the plenum when outside temperatures are above 55F. Is there even any noticeable difference? I wouldn't think there'd be a measureable difference on the dyno.

if you leave the CCV open you're letting hot coolant into the plenum thus voiding the power you would gain from the iso thermal upgrade. I installed the CCV with my spacer and i keep it closed even when the temp. is below 55, not too often here in SD.

Thanks Andy & Gdup. Makes sense. Guess we don't have much call to open the valve here in So. Cal.

yeah, that coolant valve makes a world of difference...

when i first installed my mrev, i did everything except the coolant valve (didn't have the right tools to cut the coolant tube) and it wasn't that much quicker...
but a day later after i installed the coolant valve, it was way quicker.

plus, without the coolant valve being close, the plenum gets hot, real hot...
but with it closed the plenum is a lot cooler

So, let me get this straight, you added the CCV and that change resulted in a noticeable gain in performance? Are you using the butt dyno? Don't you think it's more likely that your ECU reset adjusted to the MREV?

Installed the MREV+ today. Decided to do the CCV as well since it looked really simple. Took an extra 5 minutes. I'm not sure how much the CCV contributes to keeping the upper plenum cool. After 30 minutes of highway driving today, the upper plenum was only warm to the touch. So, I'd have to say the the iso thermal spacer, aramid gasket, and ccv are doing the job.
