Does the ECU reset have any benefits on the 6mt? It seems to me from previous posts that it simply cures sluggish shifting patterns on the manumatic models only... Please enlighten me on this subject. (And yet, I'm too lazy to hunt through the 10 million posts on this subject)

 

gdupg35, I'm not sure why but yes the ECU reset seems to have benefits even for the 6M/T shifting. I've talked to several peeps here and they say they notice a distinct improvement in shifting after reseting their ECU.
Easiest way to see, is to try it. You may be pleasantly surprised. Even if you're not, you won't waste much time with the procedure. It's quite simple and quick.

I have a 6 MT and have performed the Easy ECU reset two times now in my sedan. The shifting doesn't change, how could it? It's manual shifting. What does change is throttle response. As you know the throttle is by "wire" The ECU reads how you use the throttle and learns. All I have to prove that the reset works is seat of the pants. When I first bought my sedan in Feb 2003 I could do third gear chirps about 75% of the time. That went away after time. After the reset I can do third gear chirps all the time (also less tire tread). But there is definently a difference. So the reset isn't for shifting in a 6 MT as it is more for throttle response. The easy reset is very simple, I would recommend it. The one bad thing to the reset is that MPG goes back to what it was when you first bought the car. If your sedan is like mine the MPG came up after you owned the car for a while. After the reset my MPG went from 23 MPG down to around 19.5 MPG. But the performance is worth the change. I now do the "Easy" reset about once every two weeks.

 

I agree it may be a 'placebo' effect. But I can't ignore what these guys have said.
But hey, if it helps anyway, who cares that it shouldn't.

It is likely that the ECU learns the "aggressiveness" of a particular drivers shifting behavior and temporarily dials back timing/fuel/throttle in anticiaption of a "hard shift". It could effect this behaviour when you depress the clutch and last breifly after the clutch is released. Other car's ECUs will do this to minimize drivetrain abuse. So when you reset the ECU , it may back down to "Granny mode". Granny is anticipated to not bang gears. Just a WAG.

 

Just did the reset. At least my check engine light is now gone after the nitrous install made it come on. It does feel a little more responsive and revs a bit more freely if you ask me. Nothing drastic, but noticeable.
