The brass fittings can either be had at Home Depot or Lowes. Initially, I was thinking about the compression type fittings. However, I just got the plain fittings for now, because I could not locate all of the other type of fittings.

In addition to the 2 original 1/4" threaded male to 3/8" barbed fittings, I also got 2 - 3/8" flip 90's and 2 - 3/8" x 1" long nutted nipples.

I took the 2 nutted nipple fittings and threaded one each into both sides of the Filter . . . Then I threaded the 2 - 90's onto the nipples . . . Then I threaded the 2 barbed fittings onto the 90's and secured all the threads to yield the sample pics posted on post number 46.

I like this set up better than my orig oil catch can as I can keep an eye on what is going on, the hoses are short, and it seals tight with no vacuum leaks.

I simply flipped the stock hose around and used a second piece of high pressure hose for the other end. Nice smooth lines with no 90's.

I did this mod almost a week ago. I accumulated almost 1/2 a bottle already. The oil is really dark, almost black. Coincidence or not, my idle seems to have improved a bit during the last week. Great mod for the price and time of the install (15 minutes).

Later,

Later,
Dirty oil! No good.

It seems that what I felt was a problem is a few steps worse in direction. It appears the factory PVC setup has some major draw backs. I'm thinking that what a few members have done (proven)here has proven that there is a problem, and proven that way to much oil is being pulled up in the plenum. I have noticed that the oil in the separator system look very dark. This is good because its pulling all the nasty blow by mist, vapor that has passed by the rings. I will work very hard when time lets me to extract every bit of Horsed power the VQ will let me. This is one major part of fine tuning and there is no limit to full" on perfection.

Andy, DaveO, And a few others here that have posted, Thanks, You make this web - site fun for me.
You got to belive, That, The next setup with this mod should show some Horses power improvements. 100% perfection is the key" here on making this wonderful engine sing a song.
213 CI. and going strong. Pasta

^^^^ Dennis . . . What an evening. Perhaps one too many beers or too many shots. Hehehe . . . Can't tell which but I had to respond to your comments.

Prior to installing this mod, I had just change my engine oil. The oil on the deep stick is quite clean, as it should be. However, as noted the oil/gunk in my oil catch bowl is black. I have been pouring it out for a closer look and it is filthy. Whatever the case may or may not be, I am definitely pleased that most of this gunk is not getting back into the engine.

Brando,

After having driven some moderately spirited 200 miles, today . . . It seems that placing those 2 plastic pieces (with the white filtering element completely removed) back into the filter assembly has yielded less oil caught. Have you noticed the same? The difference in oil trapped appears to be quite substantial between the 2 set-ups.

Thank you guys for sharing this mod.
I opened up my plenum twice, each time after 9K mi, and there was oil seating there both times. Week ago MREV2 was added to ½” spacer, so this weekend was good time to add this mod. Thanks

If everyone had followed my originally posted links they would have ultimately found the following link:

. . . And as such, the "Thanks" really goes to member djlfx of the "Infiniti FX Forums for FX35 and FX45 owners".

the filter was designed to pull at 4 microns the dirt out of the lines for air tools...so without the filter it should just catch all the oil that passes through and the filter is unnecessary.

Question: Is there anything unique about this particular catch-can you guys all bought other than it being a collector can with a "T" connector at the top?

I would like to explore looking for a larger (or rather wider) catch-can but want to check if there's anything specific to look for (construction material, or some design in the top "T" section that isn't easily seen from pictures, etc).
