Makeshift Oil Catch Can
I am finally happy w/mine after getting the 90 deg adapters so that the can has a straight shot to and from the termination points...I also went to Advanced Auto Parts and said I need the most Brick $hit house hose you have in 3/8 size...whatever they gave me was noticably more rigid...and in 3-4 weeks I change it and it's 3/4 of the way full.
Nice, time to do this as well. So, this is the new parts list:
1. 2 - 1/4" dia. threaded (male) to 3/8" barbed fittings
2 - 3/8" elbows and 2- 3/8" x 1" nutted nipples
A 16 gauge anodized Aluminum bracket was added, as well.
2. 2- 5/8" hose clamps
3. 2 feet of 3/8" dia. Fuel Injector line hose
4. 1- Mini All Purpose Filter with 1/4" dia. threaded female connectors
Correct?

Ok, I went to home depot and got all the parts and tried making sense of them at the store. What does not make sense to me is the 3/8" nutted nipples and the elbow do not fit correctly like the picture. First of all, the filter has 1/4" female connectors. The only thing that is going to fit in there is the 1/4" threaded male to 3/8" barbed fittings or any other 1/4" type male end. I tried looking for a 1/4" nutted nipple but they did not sell any. The only thing I find is a 1/4" male to female elbow so I connect that to the filter. Then I connect the 1/4" threaded to 3/8" barbed to the elbow. Looks very similar to the pictures in post #45, minus the hex nutted nipple.
Andy - Can you tell me where the 3/8" stuff goes exactly in your picture? Alos, I got 2 ft of injector hose, but it looks like you don't need more than a foot. You are reusing the old pcv line on one end of the filter and the new line at the other end, correct? Thanks.

has anyone thought about drilling out the PCV valve? it unscrews from the Passenger valve cover. I think it's a 3/8" hole. If you are adding an air/oil separator to the mix, can't you just drill out the PCV? anything negative to this?

There is actually another similar unit with 3/8 inch ports also on the website if you search for "husky air filter" that has a greater flow volume. Perhaps that will address the "sucking" issue. It also has a metal frame around it... worth checking out.

^^^ Well, my curiosity has been satisfied… The vortex ring (for lack of a better term) probably isn’t a great idea unless you keep the filter on – which probably isn’t a good idea either. I tried this setup with the filter completely removed – but kept the ring with spiral ridges… those ridges create a bunch of turbulence – so much in fact that I feel it defeats the intention I had to help keep oil vapors from entering and exiting before being caught in the bowl… At idle the existing pool of oil splatters like crazy – so instead of keeping the oil I’m afraid it might cause caught oil to escape… So it’s off now and I’m running the standard set-up that most others are = no filter or vortex ring… might not be of any concern or surprise to many – but at least one other person out here thought of the same thing so I figured I’d share my impressions.
Installing mine, and was wondering, does the driverside valve cover have a one way valve like the passenger side? Anything bad about connecting both sides to the can?? and plugging the vaccum side of the intake....
I've had this thing on for a couple of months now and it initally picks up oil fast. in one day of driving it'll have maybe 1/8" of oil in the bottom. but that's all it'll collect. I tried leaving it for a month and it never gets any higher. It doesn't even come close to be 1/4 full like some others mentioned. more like a half teaspoon or so. empty it and it gets right back to the same level within a day. anyone else experiance this? I don't feel like empting it out every day for it to be effective.
