Racing Events in the DFW & Surounding Area

Hey now that I'm in the area I can keep an updated thread of High Performance Driving events in the area. I tried this in the New England but it never caught on so I abandoned it. I won't sugar coat it, you can damage your car at some of these events (some events more than others). And I don't know jack about 1/4 mile dates, don't that do that every weekend anyway at Ennis? I just keep up with the Track and Autocross events. What do ya think? I'd like to have some company, the G crowd is severely under represented.

I don't necessary mean you have to participate either. Most of the time spectators get in free and parade laps on the race track are open to any 4 wheeled vehicle with a licensed driver.

Just a thought, give me some feedback.

I'm definitely down for some track/autox events this year! I have some work to do to get my G ready but I'm definitely interested.

I think I mentioned this in another thread that one other member here is pretty hardcore into autocross ... Balaguru. He doesn't post much but he's around.

The season is about to start back up. I'll be doing only a few autoxes this year and then quitting for a few years starting in July. I have some video of the Mineral Wells and Texas Motor Speedway venues. The other venues, Pennington Field and La Grave aren't as nice but they're ok. I've never been to the TMS bus lot, another venue used by some clubs.

I also checked out your weight reduction thread yesterday GWord, great stuff!

I'm not up on all the autocross rules and regulations but with the modifications I have on my G I don't know what class that would put me in. I also can't afford track wheels/tires so I'm running on my 19's with street rubber...

I just remembered in your Fat Car thread you mentioned:

That's one of the fixes I need for my G is rotors ... I'm running Hawk HPS pads which I really like for the street but they just didn't do it at the track. I'm wondering if you ever installed these "light duty track/autocross break pads" or if you are doing a swap when you track/autox the car?? I need a pad that can handle a higher temp than the Hawks otherwise I'll be burning through rotors like nothing.

I'm considering going with the PowerStop cryo slotted rotors if I can get a good deal on them.

The EBC pads and rotors I baught were junk. Actually they could be just fine but the G just is to heavy of a car with brakes that are too small. I had the rotors resurfaced once and they are warped again already. The YellowStuff pads were gone in a day. I've just ordered some CarboTech racing pads, not recommended for street use. I won't get to try them out for over a month now because the power plant I work at is going into a refueling period where everyone works mandatory 12hr days 6 days a week.

I weighed the new EBC rotors but never got around to weighting the OEM ones yet. I should update that thread soon. Thanks for the reminder.

So are you planning to run the racing pads only at the track and swap them out or are you planning to run them on the street as well?

I don't see the PowerSlot cryo rotor available for the '07 yet ... what are your plans to replace the rotors?

Is this car your daily driver?

I'm going to see how the track pads work on the street, Squeeling, Cold Braking performance, etc... It's not hard to change them out for just a weekend though. I'll make a comment on that somewhere once I try them out.

Yes, the G is my daily driver.

I'm also contemplating installing a whole new braking system on the G. The shop that mirrors the TDE events (Performance Speed Tech I believe) recommended a set of rotors, pads, & calipers that'll run me about 2500$ per axle plus ~400$ for install. That seemed reasonable to me. I forget the brand, didn't write it down. But the calipers would allow up to 305-355mm 2-piece rotors (12.5-14in).

I can't justify replacing the OEM Brembo's on my G but I'm definitely doing something about the rotors/pads.

(this is what I just PM'd you):
I tracked my car at Motorsport Ranch last year and pretty much fried the rotors which I blame on the Hawk HPS pads not having a high enough temperature rating. I'm definitely replacing the rotors soon probably with PowerSlot cryo-treated and I've pretty much decided on the Hawk HP Plus pads which are better suited for track use than the HPS. My research shows the HP Plus will have more dust, noise, and rotor wear than the HPS so I may end up swapping the HPS back in if they are not suitable for daily driving. I figure in the Texas summer the HP Plus will heat up quick enough to be fine but maybe switch back to the HPS in the winter months.

Hmmm, only one review on the Hawk HP Plus. I was torn on the Project Mu B-Force which are pretty darn inexpensive but those got a couple decent reviews. I just don't want to overheat the pads again to the point where I'm going to have to drive with my brake pedal pulsating until I either resurface the rotors or replace them again!

Decisions decisions!

Did I mention I have on order a set of Carbotech full race pads. http://www.ctbrakes.com/

Can't wait till April 19th. Thats the first chance I'll get to try them out after my mandatory overtime.

ECR Kills Brakes!

So this weekend's TDE event out at Eagles Canyon was a BLAST. That is one FUN track!

There were a handful of Z's and I think one G35 coupe. But the Vettes, Vipers and Porsches were the majority.

A LOT of people had brake problems. The PST (shop) that was out there had a 3 hour wait for people wanting to bleed/flush their brakes. And I think I overheard someone say they charged $140.

So just a word of advice for anyone wanting to go out to ECR...have GOOD brakes.

But I personally had a GREAT time... I think my best run time was a 2.13.5

I need to unload my camera tonight...so if I have anything worth posting, I will do that tonight...

ECR so far isn't my favorite track.

PST always treats me right, I don't think its 150$ for a bleed and brake pad change but if there are a lot of people there like me it ends up needing to be a brake fluid flush and rebuilt calipers :/

But you know they do come out to the track with equipment, personnel and performance brake pads for purchase so what ever they charge is defiantly worth it.
