I was originally interested because of the easy access to the oil filter and drain via the maintenance port. Is there anything else I should consider?

Yes - $185 shipped is for the Black Powder Coated version to the lower 48 states
I don't believe any others offer powder coating service, and I'm sure they don't offer it of this quality and price.
Most brands are the same thickness and material as far as I know. Designs vary somewhat. Mine has 2 drain holes - for coolant as well as auto trans lines. Vents are designed to be diagonal on mine as opposed to straight, to vent without impeding airflow as much.
I don't believe any others offer powder coating service, and I'm sure they don't offer it of this quality and price.
