Hey, Jon. I wanted to stop in to say hello, but you had people in your office everytime I walked by. Next time I'm back in Clearwater, I'll probably stop by. I just don't want to have this be a persistent problem with the transmission and the blame put on me for my "improper" driving techniques.

Im really suprised nissan north america hasn't tried to do something about the transmissions that are in our cars. They really suck! The thing that drives me nuts is that they try to blame it on our "improper" driving.

One day i had to call him to get a part and told him i was in the market for a new car...here was our convo:

Me: "X" how is it going?
"X": Not to bad, just replacing ANOTHER 6spd on a 350z.
Me: that sucks it seems like everyone has problems with them, guys on the forum are constantly complaining about them.
"X": yeah, i know you want a 6 spd 350z, but IMO DO NOT buy one. They are complete junk. We are having old ladies bring them in with problems...thats when you know something is messed up.
Me: yeah, wow, that is scary. Hasn't nissan done anything about this?
"X": Not really - we are just told to basically make up excuses, nissan knows there are problems with them and they refuse to take blame for them.

You know there is a problem with the transmissions when the techs tell you this on the side.

^ I even said the same thing... I told them I know this is a common problem with our transmissions. The guy who replaced my transmission last time said "you have the 009 tranny, so you are set." I know I have the 009 transmission, which is the most updated transmission, but people STILL have problems with it.

Any idea what is updated on the 009 transmission?

I wonder what version the '05 G35 Coupe comes with?

I took my car to Lokey to have them help out with the problem. I got a call 45 minutes later saying a new transmission was ordered. +1 for amazing service at Lokey Infiniti

Now to current time... for the past month or so, my 6th gear is giving me problems again. Same thing...if I give the car some gas in any gear and put it into 6th to cruise, GRIND! Even under normal driving conditions just going from 5th-6th, GRIND! It grinds 9/10 times now. I also have problems with 1st gear. Sometime, it will take me 3-4 times until it will finally go into gear. This is with the better 009 transmission, too.

I'm at almost 79,000 miles. I bought the extended warranty through Infiniti when I purchased the car, so I'm hoping I'm still covered. I'll be taking the car to Lokey on Monday to hopefully get some good news again.
1. adding more power + drag racing = transmission failure, for any car
2. Because you have gone turbo, have documented yourself racing, you work for a performance company, and you are an avid member of this forum, I wouldn't be surprised if they say they are voiding your warranty.

Brilliant...I never thought of that. You really think I shift into 6th gear on the track?

doesn't matter kiddo. What you have done to your can, and the amount of evidence of how you drive you car is quite abundant, which could easily lead to infiniti/nissan holding you liable for the damage. It's the risk we all run when modding our cars.

One thing I have learned in my 35 years of driving sticks, speed shifting does nothing but break stuff. Unless you are racing for REAL MONEY, it's just not worth it. I have 60K fairly hard miles on it and about 1000 VERY hard miles on it and a little track time, no problems. But I clutch every time, I let up on the gas with each up-shift and let the revs fall 800 before re-engaging the clutch. I also rev match when down shifting. One other thing, brake pads an rotors are a lot cheaper than a new trany. I never down shift when slowing down for a stop.
