Why do our transmissions suck?

So I had my transmission replaced last October due to the 2nd/6th gear synchros being bad. It would grind into 2nd under almost any driving conditions. 6th gear would grind when I would give it some gas in any gear and just throw it into 6th to cruise. I took my car to Lokey to have them help out with the problem. I got a call 45 minutes later saying a new transmission was ordered. +1 for amazing service at Lokey Infiniti

Now to current time... for the past month or so, my 6th gear is giving me problems again. Same thing...if I give the car some gas in any gear and put it into 6th to cruise, GRIND! Even under normal driving conditions just going from 5th-6th, GRIND! It grinds 9/10 times now. I also have problems with 1st gear. Sometime, it will take me 3-4 times until it will finally go into gear. This is with the better 009 transmission, too.

I'm at almost 79,000 miles. I bought the extended warranty through Infiniti when I purchased the car, so I'm hoping I'm still covered. I'll be taking the car to Lokey on Monday to hopefully get some good news again.

Most transmissions do not have a synchronizer for first gear. You usually have to play with it a bit to select first gear while you are rolling.

I'm not sure our transmission doesn't... just too lazy to look it up at the moment.

Synchronizers usually go bad because people jam them into gear, damaging the brass synchronizer ring. Strange that your sixth gear synchro is going bad, though...

Would they cover a transmission under warranty if the car is FI?

Some dealerships are really good about things...lockey being one of them, but i guess we will all find out! I am going to need a new auto transmission soon.

Also, ryan, i have a buddy who is a tech at nissan here and if they wont replace it up there let me know he gets things at cost and will do some side jobs...for a lot cheaper than what you probably can get done anywhere else.

Well, I had a visit with Lokey this morning. All 3 service assistant people were new to me, but I haven't been to Lokey in awhile. About 45 minutes went by and they called me in to have me give a ride to a tech, since they couldn't replicate the problem. I gave him a ride and let him hear the grind.... I was doing about 45mph in 3rd gear and shifted into 6th. He tells me it's because you're not supposed to shift from any lower gear into 6th, as the synchros aren't ready to go into that gear. We get back to the dealer and the service guy, the tech I gave a ride to, and the tech who replaced my transmission the first time all told me how I shouldn't skip gears....the tech who replaced my transmission last time and the service assistant seemed to talk down to me, so I didn't even bother telling them that it still grinds shifting from 5th-6th. On my drive home, it grinds twice in a row from 5th-6th, but didn't bother going back because I was afraid they would tell me I'm shifting too quickly. If I granny shift....take 3+ seconds to shift, it won't grind. Otherwise, it still grinds doing a normal 5-6 shift. Kind of let down...

Hello, Ryan. We haven't talked in quite some time. I saw you here yesterday, but we didn't get a chance to speak. I really wish that you would have stopped by my office to discuss this with me, so I could have been involved. I fully trust the judgement of my technicians, but am always willing to take a second look at this to make sure we didn't miss anything.
