MY FRIEND... has done this with the last 3 vehicles he's bought and works every time...

BTW, turbomaxima, any more pics of the vehicle in your avatar?
That sounds good, but if there is a hiccup in the system and someone asks for verification of what was traded......? This also isn't a friend I am buying from, but someone who seems nice via e-mail and phone calls. I'd love to save the $2000 in taxes, but want to make sure I don't get caught with my hand in the cookie jar. Feel free to PM me with info you don't want broadcast here.

I'll see if I can dig up pics of the Techart Magnum CTT (my old CTT wasn't as fancy unfortunately).

Like the others have said, you will pay sales tax when you register the car in Florida at the tag office. You will have to have the car inspected at the tag office. They mainly check the VIN against the title and make sure the car actually exists. If you report the sale price as too low for the value, the state will send you a letter asking for clarification. It happened to me when I sold a car to my mother with a family discount. So it will depend on how comfortable the seller will be with helping you fudge the paperwork.

I've never had them inspect my car before? Weird? I think the family discount thing is a good idea.

Just to understand the process, he will put this amount on the title (he has title in hand) and sign it over to me? That is the number they tax me on? Is my bank involved in any shape or form?

When he signs the title over to you, all he needs to do is print and sign his name. THATS IT. you can fill in the rest... aka mileage, price etc.

+1. Get a bill of sale for the same amount you are going to state you paid.

The DMV only inspects vehicles brought in from other states. If you were to buy the car from someone in Florida, they wouldn't inspect it because it already has a Florida title.

Well he is going to "trade" me the car, so on the bill of sale I am going to put trade. Call it a family friend receiving services.
