What you need to do is leave the engine running and unplug them one at a time. If you unplug one and there is no change in how the engine is running you know you have the right one. That is how I figured out mine.
It's not normal to fry a coil pack.
If you find that the same pack fried, you've probably got a short or loose connection somewhere. If you find that you've got random packs failing, you either have a loose engine ground, bad ECU/UTEC, or possible moisture in or around the ECU/UTEC. Also check the ground at the UTEC (black wire should have a solid chassis ground).
Another thing I'll note is that if you drive excessively with bad coil packs, you're going to slowly lose compression in that cylinder and clog your cats.

I'm trying to drive as little as possible. My work commute isn't bad, but it's over a 30 minute drive to get the coil replacements. I'm trying to have a friend pick them up for me.

If you don't have cats you'll probably be alright just be real easy on the gas and keep the rpms down. Does your check engine light flash everytime you give it gas? Thats what mine was doing. I had to pull over immediately because my cats were getting too hot, and 3" cats aren't cheap to replace LOL
