^Get whichever one you can understand. There's really not enough difference to argue over.
Canon lenses are more readily available, and usually a bit cheaper.
Nikon cameras are generally more compatible with more older lenses.
Canon has a shorter distance between the rear lens element and sensor, so you can get an adapter and run Nikon lenses (albeit fully manual)
Nikon speedlights have more features for communicating with each-other off-camera.
Some Canons perform better in low-light/high-iso than an equivalent Nikon
Some Nikons can do absolutely amazing things with high-speed sync
Canon makes the 85mm f1.2, an amazing lens for which there really is no Nikon equivalent.
Nikon's 70-200mm f2.8 VR-II is generally considered to be one of the best lenses ever built...
.......the back-and-forth can go on and on and on.... so just get the one you can use better.

good luck! I personally use Canon because that's what I grew up using. lol. It just depends on how it feels in your hands.
