Unhappy blew low beam ballast on flooded street

so i drive down the street the other night, with that freak storm, and hit spots so deep, i thought i was going to float down the road. got through it, but next day i noticed no driver's side low beam....checked bulb...blown. actually shattered. replace bulb. no luck. drop ballast and about a cup of water flows out from it..yeah..must have gotten drenched on the flooded road. water was pouring from the actual ballast interior and the housing it mounts on.....

so, where can i get a ballast locally? is dealer my only option? is it even possible to find one in stock? i am in the cleawater area, if anyone has any ideas. i will try calling around, but appreciate any help. hopefully that will solve my issue.

i was also wondering if i could just dry out ballast and reuse it...i know dumb idea.

In water that deep, I would be worried about flooding the engine.

Good luck finding a ballast. I would think a dealer should have one in stock. Do you have a CAI on there? Just wondering how that handled the water.

Whew, that's good. I finally broke down and put one on my car about two weeks ago. I was running just the stock setup with a K&N drop in. But man, when those storms blew in I was like "F**k me." I'm just going to pay more attention to the weather and take my F-150 when that happens.

that is a easy fix. take it off and let it set in the sun or place it in the oven for A FEW MINS when the oven is heat. it will work.

serious? you don't think it got fried with all that water in it? it had a fair amount of water pour out from inside the ballast.

To be honest this happend to me before and a few days later it turned on by itself.....I was just about to go buy a new ballast from the dealer when it started working again, so its a long shot but hell it may save you some money. I wouldnt suggest the oven but leavin it in the sun may help.

i did find one from a fellow owner, at a good price, and he is shipping it, with the harness, and ignitor to me. hopefully this solves the issue. i couldn't believe that it actually shattered the oem bulb, that was in there.....

i did dry out the original ballast, but will wait and install the one i have coming. too damn hot to be yanking wheels, and messing around in the garage. replacement should be here tomorrow.

other than a blown fuse, which i checked, and it is not blown, there isn't much more that should be keeping it from working..... i think.

Sounds like you got it worked out but my recomendation was going to be to dry it out with a hair dryer first and try it and if that did not work try Turbo Toys in Tampa. He has all kinds of spare parts.
