Smile Christmas Present - Finished my Audio System!

My Christmas present to me this year was completing the audio system in my G35. Big thanks to Terry, Bill, and Matt at Stereorama in Clearwater, Florida for helping me choose the components and, of course, doing the actual installation. I am actually astonished at the sound quality of the new system. It is by far the best audio I have ever had in a car.

Most of you remember that Stereorama installed my Eclipse AVN 5435 DoubleDin Navigation/Stereo system last October. The AVN5435, with its 5 volt pre-outs, really came alive with the new JL amplifier and speakers.

I spent an afternoon listening to speakers with Terry and fell in love with JL's ZR650-CSi front speakers. They are expensive, but the sound quality was the best I had ever heard. Here's a picture after the dynamat and front speaker was already installed:

Here's a shot of the rear speaker spacers:

Here's a shot of the rear speakers with the dynamat in place. I went with JL VR650-CXi speakers for the back.

Here's a shot of the JL 500/5 amplifier, JL 10W3v2 subwoofer, and 4080 box installed in the trunk.

As I said above, I am very happy with the final results. Sound quality is the best I could have hoped for. The front speakers are crystal clear and I can hear details that I never heard or noticed before. It's like getting a bunch of new CDs. The bass is spectacular. I notice it more than most because my G35 was non-premium and I didn't even have the Bose subs in the rear deck.

The JL 500/5 is a five channel amplifier that is somewhat unique. It channels 100 watts to each of the two front speakers, 25 watts to the back speakes, and the other 250 watts to a subwoofer. It was the perfect choice for me because I wanted a clean, factory, OEM look with a single amp. Many people fail to notice the 4080 box on the left side of the trunk... the amp is also somewhat out of view attached to the back seat... I kept the cargo net, have plenty of space in my trunk, and the sound quality is great!

I think I'm done...

Very sharp. Like the OEM look with the low-key bling factor.

That looks fantastic. JB, could you give us an approximation (parts + install labor) on how much you spent in getting the Eclipse head unit installed in your car?

The first picture shows the spacer with one strip of dynamat under it. The second picture is further along in the process, but still isn't complete. I should have taken a third picture right before Matt put the rear panels back on... but I didn't.

Gee, I don't know... probably tires and maybe wheels when my current tires wear out. But I'm done with mods for now. No new mods for me until next year...

Thanks!

Yes, the rear seat still folds down. That's actually how they installed everything, then they tilt it back up straight. I have to say that I don't plan on folding the seat down and sliding in a bunch of boards or anything though.

I'd rather not quote specific prices in the open forum. I'll send you a PM, or you can give Terry and Bill a call at Stereorama. It's worth a drive over to Clearwater!

That's for sure! Once you yank the dash, door panels, rear panels, rear seats, and trunk out, it looks pretty stark in there. But it was worth it in the end...

It's amazing how much difference a sound system can make in a car!

Sweet choice in components and a nice install. I still need to change out the stock Blose system in my car. I need to get the 4080 box.
