Vortech Installed
Vortech Installed
Well, I finally got my car back from the install this evening.
Mods on car before Vortech, 5/8" plenum spacer, Magnaflow exhaust system, Gordee's grounding wires, and K&N CAI.
First thing, WOW that BOV is f*****g LOUD. But I fell in love with the sound of that SC whine.
The gear sound at idle everyone talks about was about as loud as I was expecting, I can live with it for now,....... I think.
Low end is non-existent, mid-range is ok, not what I expected, but about 4000 and up there is a nice smooth power increase.
By the way I have a 2004 coupe A/T.
As far as shifting in full auto mode at WOT, everyone is saying they are hitting the rev limiter and it's not shifting fast enough in auto. Mine is shifting just perfect at 6500. I know some people are going to find this hard to believe but I think it's shifting fast enough because of Gordee's grounding wires. As a side note, the grounding wires also fixed few other minor issues.
Next items on the wish list, in this order?
1. FastIntentions cat back and HFC.
2. Headers? - still undecided about this one.
3. UNICHIP tuning
4. ??????
Last BIG negative.
I got my car back today.....I'm leaving tomorrow on vacation, no car for a week. I'm DYING to drive this thing more. Dyno numbers after vacation and more impressions after driving it more.

On tuning Vortech.
My local tuner is a UNICHIP dealer and tuner and that's what he is familiar with. He is willing to tune the SS box that came with the kit, but asked if I had the software. Is the SS box tunable? If it is, what do I need so he can tune it?
Thanks for any help on this.

Congrats!
You need the R4 Software and there is a updated map from Split Second you also need that your tuner can get from calling them.
I would also suggest you get the 3.12 pulley and the 93" NAPA belt for a bit more 'umph'
Mine starts to kick in at 3500 and pulls thru redline hard. I wish I could figure a way to get the lag decreased to get the pull starting from 2 - 2500.....
Any ideas anyone? (and do not say TT...)

TT........lol sorry I had to. Ok seriously I tried to get the power in earlier by adding an extra pulley and putting on a ribbed belt but it did not work, the best thing to do is to go to the smaller 2.87 pulley, this will kick in power sooner by building boost faster but you will also be pushing the blower harder and start toi produce hotter air, if you can cool that down then you maybe fine...maybe a larger FMIC and larger piping, that is the way I was going until I stopped.
Blah, Blah, BLah....TT, Schmee Schmee...
Yeah I am going to get that 2.87... Do I need a new belt for that or will the 93" Gates that I have work on it? I know the measurement of the 93" is really 93 5/8" and there is another one at NAPA that measures 93 1/8"
I am going to get a C02 inter cooler, cooler and probably new return fuel suystem w/ the Walbro pump and 440 injectors when I get the 2.87 as well. I'll keep the piping and the FMIC the same as I do not think the 2.87 will stress it out that much.... What about the 34 tooth CoG on the back end? Does that help out alot as well??

Well I never got the chance to change my pulley to the 2.87 but I think the belt is the same, not 100% positive though. I had the Walboro and the AAM fuel return system and 440 injectors and I was told by Rob that I was getting heat soak with the 3.12 pulley so keeping the FMIC and pipes the same will def. need some help to keep the air cooler.
I can't speak of the 34 toothed cog as I never went down that path, hopefully someone else can answer that.

Yeah, I do need a Torque converter... Thanks for the link Rick
That will definately help but it won't help the blower to spool any faster getting more boost at a lower rpm...
Urban, I am hoping the C02 spray inter cooler cooler will help with the heat soak issue.

Forgive my ignorance, but a supercharger has a BOV (Blow off valve)? I thought only turbos had those. I love the sound of them and figured I had to go turbo to get that. Lemme know.
Thanks!
Yeh below 3500rpms ... the power is not any different from a regular G.
Once mine hits 3500rpms though you really feel the car pulling.
I haven't done all that much to the car...other than my vortech. Just a fujitsubo y-pipe and apexi WS2 exhaust.
Thinking of doing the pulley and belt.
I have an 06 so I don't know if Gordgee's Ground Wire kit will work on my car. I had his kit in my 04 and it definitely improved my shifting speed.
I should find out if he has one for an 06?

Loud Bov
BOV can be made a little quieter by adding small K&N style filter to it (sorry, I don't recall K&N part #). I also had that loud annoying whistle at constant speed and decel (when BOV was open bypassing the boost). I put a bottle brush inside the K&N to break up the air flow and it is a lot quieter now.
I think you can find generic cone filter too. The BOV is blowing air out (not sucking air in) so the quality of the filter is not that important. It is solely for noise reasons. You can attach it directly to the BOV oval outlet. My space was a little tight for that so I fabbed a 90 degree elbow. Not sue if you can tell from these pics...
