For Sure...

Any turbo can be home installed. It's just when you run into problems that can be dangerous. We have seen this time and time again.

Goodluck.

vance i gotta tell you.... i stopped at Performance Motorsports yesterday.

Vinny Ten was more than happy to sit down with me and chat about turbocharging the G for a good hour and a half. in fact, ALL the guys there were happy to talk to me about it. everybody was very open and approachable.

he happened to have a JWT car at the shop that day. he popped the hood and let me check out the whole kit. it's VERY OEM looking. if it weren't for the little JWT logos on the silicone piping connectors, somebody who didn't know the Z/G motor might not realize it was aftermarket.

he had to run an errand, so he let me a ride along with him in the JWT car. the experience absolutely blew me away. car started up without a hiccup, idled just like stock. at low rpm/throttle you couldnt even tell it was different from a stock 350. the kit was quiet and unobtrusive. (in fact, i'm betting some people WONT like this kit b/c it's so quiet... could barely hear anything of the turbos spooling or the BOV when he shifted)

at WOT this thing became a whole different beast. i've never been in a G/Z that pressed me into my seat like that before. it seemed like it just had a neverending supply of power, and he was only shifting at like 5500. (i believe this particular car made about 400whp on the dyno).

anyways, long story short i give the JWT kit and Performance Motorsports 2 big thumbs up

So Steve... when are you getting the JWT so you can take me for a ride?? lol

I'm pretty impressed with the JWT as well... My concern is, do I wanna just plop on the turbo...? Or do it with a built motor...?

well, J i think that really depends on your goals power wise. if you're gonna be happy with 350-425 or so, i think the motor will be fine.

personally, i would like to see my car at around 350-360 for the time being, and be at the lower end of the kit's potential and be plenty safe in terms of the motor and my 5AT transmission.

in the future, as my power goals would undoubtedly increase, i would then plan on making modifications to address those needs (upgraded cooling, 5AT upgrades, built bottom end, etc)

does anybody on the forum think that 350whp will be too much for my stock rods, pistons, and automatic transmission to take?

edit: any opinions i expressed above on the amount of power the stock motor can take are just my opinion based on reading the forums endlessly

I'm not sure what the 5AT can take in general, but mine with VB, TC, and added cooling has been running fine. The thing to keep in mind is the power is there to tear the transmission apart if you're not careful. I think manumatic mode is the safest cause you have a bit more control on the downshifts. The 5AT does not downshift to the correct gear fast enough when you have a lot of power, if you get into it at the wrong time you can mess things up.

i've heard that the 5AT will hit the rev limiter at WOT in automatic mode... anybody else have any thoughts?

Without a valve body change and or the rev limiter moved you will bang against the rev limiter in auto mode at WOT.

ok another question since you seem to be hanging around this thread rookie... do you think the TC is necessary or would the valve body and a transmission cooler be enough? what kind of whp are you running?

I dyno'd 412 to the wheels on a dynojet a week or 2 ago. Not sure if a TC is necessary for the Gs, plenty of Zs and Gs run great with FI and just VB and additional cooling. Performance Motorsports should work pretty closely with protorque, I'm sure they build/modify the TV pretty well.

It sucks to think about going into for transmission work twice, but too high of a stall and the around town driving can feel like poo. No doubt a higher stall launches like mad, but there is some middle ground if that's what you're looking for. Edge racing converters was great to work with cause I wanted that middle ground around town driving. Do you know of any modded TC owners in your area? Andre at Edge really suggests using your original core for the mods, other shops may or may not feel this is necessary.

The whole VB debate is a litttle tough to go thru as well. I've talked to a couple of Stillen VB owners and they say the light to mid throttle shifting doesn't change which is good, and WOT is supposed to be better which is also good. Side by side with a more aggressive VB I'm not sure which is the better choice. I have a Forged Performance VB and light to mid throttle shifts are felt but not heard, WOT it is very firm but holds the power well enough for me to not complain.

Does anyone know if the JWT kit provides a port for the EGT probe?

Before or after the turbo?

I am getting the exhaust set up first and want to figure out how many bungs I need.

Thanks!

if you pull up the installation instructions from the JWT website there are pictures of what the manifolds and pipes look like. i don't see any bungs in any of the pics though

Thanks for the manual tip - I also don't see it. I'll just get one extra in the hf cats.

I've clocked 13k miles @ 10psi in the last 3 months of use. No problems with the VRT built motor or JWT TT kit.
