Although it is heavier, I agree, the RB26DETT is a strong motor with great potential and has a successful history of producing massive levels of power.
I like the idea - a lot. I have pondered the swap myself.
Nismo Z-Tune has built a 2.8L version of the 2.6L RB26DETT called the RB26DETT Z2. Nismo engineers have created the most powerful road-going GT-R ever, with only 20 produced (@$170,000 each). Output is a beautiful 500HP and 400TQ when tuned for emissions, and 600HP without de-tuning. This would be REAAAALLLLLLY fun to have in our G's.
See Nismo Z-Tune: http://www.nismo.co.jp/Z-tune/index.html
And the transfercase! From my understanding, the Attesa-ETS transfer case was offered on R32 & R33 ('89-'97)Skylines (front/rear torque apportioning), the Attesa-ETS Pro (front/rearleft/rearright torque apportioning) came installed on the R33 (optional) and the R34 standard, from '95-'02).
Point being, the G35X comes with the Attesa-ETS - I'm sure upgrade-able to the Pro. Wow.. the potential is amazing. The ablility to put that power down to the pavement... Oh baby!
$30,000 dollars later... maybe not...

I would only do the swap if your thinking of doing 750 +. Otherwise just stick to a TT kit and build your motor. You can run 550 at the wheels comfortably.

If I were to do it all over again I would have done a swap. My buddy tried to talk me into it and I ended up doing aps tt. It would have been nice to have something that not many have.
