Rb26dett????

i was thinking about going with the aps twin turbo set up and after talking to many shops...it is going to cost about 8000 after install to get about 450 to the wheels....and then i thought about droping a RB26DETT in with an rb25 tranny....the motor and install will cost about 5000 and then all i need is a computer, front mount and injectors and i am at 600 to the wheels with an extra motor if need be....just trying to get your thoughts on this..and if you guys know any shops in the florida area maybe georgia area that are good at getting motors for cheap and doing great work and tuning...thanks in advance guys and hope to hear everyone's thoughts

There's a shop in Maryland, Jim Evan's tuning (I think), that has done the swap. They sell a custom kit to help with the swap, give them a call, I'm sure they can locate a motor for you as well.

Your kind of missing the biggest part on the whole shabang, BUILDING THE MOTOR, good luck trying to run 600whp on stock internals. Even if they gave you cost on all the parts it will still cost you 5k for the build. Then maybe 1500 to install, throw in the intercooler etc., injectors, A NEW CLUTCH, a new fuel pump, tuning etc. you'll hit 8k very quickly

There is a LONG thread on this very subject. Just search the same exact thread topic as yours.

I don't understand why anyone would want to do this. The block for the RB is over 300 pounds heavier than the VQ block. That's going to throw off every dynamic aspect of the car, from braking, to front end traction, to turn in.

what mathematics did you use to put you at 600whp???

a stock RB26 only puts down near 300 hp, injectors and a front mount arent good for 300 hp...

you might want to rethink your options man

well thanks for the input and the search....and if you use a stand alone...with the right tuning front mount and injectors 600hp isnt hard to reach.

Even if you don't go through with a full engine rebuild, you're still going to want to change a bunch of parts before you drop it in - water pump, oil pump, belts, plugs, etc - it is an older engine after all. I think you also need a custom fabricated oil pan, motor mounts, and a driveshaft. It can be done, but I can tell you for sure it's going to cost a lot more than $5000 to do it right, even before the ECU and intercooler upgrades. Hell, I just swapped an engine into my 240, did all the labor myself and I'm right around 5k with upgrades. There are so many parts that can be missing, broken, or wrong when doing a swap, so expect a lot of extra costs - adds up quick.

Good luck with whatever you choose though, I'd love to see it done!

you are forgetting 2 very important things about RB26DETTs.... 1. Even if you buy a "newer RB," it is still going to be around 10 years old. You will probably purchase one out of an R32 (for less money), so make that around 15 years old. <- These engines are not going to be in great shape, and the older R32 engines have the oil pump drive problem... You have to realize that you are expecting a ten year old "stock motor" to push 600hp, when you dont know anything about it's true condition (oil changes, etc). 2. (very important) ALL RB26DETT turbos, except N1, have ceramic exhaust wheels that limit the amount of boost you can run due to the fact that they break off when they see too much heat. 16psi is really pushing it and I wouldn't expect them to last too long at that psi. <- Thay being said 16 psi will get you to around 400 whp on a completely stock engine, not 600... So no stock RB26DETT with stock turbos is going to put down 600hp for more than one dyno pull.
But, if you really want to do the swap though, find an RB26 that is less than 10 years old ($4500) and just swap the turbos for some garrett 2860r's ($800 each), get a power fc ($900), injectors, fuel pump, modify the stock fuel rail to a return set-up. with all of that you should be able to have a reliable 500whp on a stock engine. <- this all depends on the engines condition and your tuner, though...
