cold weather and vortech sc
Has anyone found out about vortech and cold weather ? Someone said that the oil needs to be above 32 degree to run the vortech...is this tue ? And does the same apply to Prochargers sc. too ? I live in Nebraska and it gets dam cold...not going to drive it much this winter but dont want to be stuck with only one car and 2 people to drive it....Thanks

I'll look into this. Since the Vortech uses the same oil as your engine it seems to me that it would have fewer temperature-related problems than the ATI--but what do I know.
All I know is that I drove my sedan with its newly installed Vortech supercharger three hours this morning in cold weather (well, cold for North Carolina which isn't saying much) and had no issues.
However... If I lived in Nebraska, I would keep the car in a garage and drive slowly while the car warmed up so as not to be boosting until everything got up to operating temps.

I do keep the car in the garage when Im at home...no problem there...its when I go some place and the car has to sit for a few hours in the cold that Im thniking of. Thx for the reply

Since the usual failure mode of superchargers is bearing wear. For the absolute maximum bearing life it is important that clean and correct oil temperature be maintained.
The ideal oil temperature is 180F, one would use premium synthetic oils to help extend life and change them every 90 days............a sump heater and temp sensor on the return line would give you lots of info.
