Hey guys. I've always been interested in forced induction, but afraid of the consequences of destroying a stock engine block. What would be the safest kit to run with the most HP (turbo or supercharger). After spending 30k on a car, I'm also on a budget. I know I can do the supercharger install myself, but turbo might require a shop. Also, can you guys post how many miles on your systems and any problems caused by them.

Thanks!!

The following FI systems seem to have the best following:

Stillen roots SC
-easy to install/engine warranty/inexpensive
--must install new hood or cowl to stock hood

Procharger SC
-easy to install/no hood mods needed/no oil pan tap
--moderatly priced

Turbo -Greddy/JWT
-no engine HP loss/power is usually higher/no special hood
--EXPENSIVE/difficult to install/some inherent lag/heat issues

I like Procharger the most

Don't like Stillen cuz it needs that ugly hood

If you looking for something reliable then Procharger is they way to go.
Will give you enough power to be fast and still keep your engine in one piece.

Procharger is the least popular in term of Centrifugal SC. Vortech holds that title and Vortech is also being used as a standard for reliability.

JWT is the fastest spooling Turbo out there so if you complaining about lag around 2.5k-3K then your standard is to high.

I was going to go with procharger in my last car (97 F-body), but the cost and reliability issues stopped me.

But you need to tap into the oil for the Vortec...complicates the install.

Not really you can buy a spacer so you don't have to tap on the block. Procharger has the most history of blowing engine so if your concern is the Oil Return Line then be my guest. Go to My350z.com and check their FI forum and you'll see why most prefer Vortech.

Check this thread for ATI blown motors.

No type of FI is safe. You will always have a problem sooner or later when you start boosting.

joe603-I feel you bro. I am looking to go FI pretty soon and weighing all of these options is driving me nuts. lol!! Each kit has its pros/cons. But regardless of which kit you go with, no kit is 100% safe and a blown engine is always a possibility with FI no matter how "safe" you are. So just make sure you have some back-up funds available just in case.

the jwt turbo is the same turbo in the greddy kit, which is the lancer turbo, so lets not single the JWT out.

For a diy install the roots sp appears to be the easiest, next the vortech and then the single turbo setups. Frankly I hate spers and sp cars (they tend to break really easily, and aren't good for road courses, touge, or really hard driving, but to each their own. With any kit though you need to have it tuned and you wont get the gains and reliability everyone else gets until you do exhaust, the cooling upgrades, transmission upgrades, Engine Management upgrades, etc. so consider everything that you need before and after FI before you go that route.

The be best you can do now is just find all the best components that will give you that peace of mind. ATI doesn't have a good EMU and the same with Greddy and maybe JWT. Getting a Tuner kit is the way to go and buy the parts that you think is necessary. The upcoming STS Turbo isn't going to blow your mind but it is better option than most Supercharger and it comes with some nice parts. Tial 38mm Wastegate, Tial 50mm Blow off valve, all JET HOT coated pipes, 440CC injectors, Walbro 255LPH fuel pump, Turbo XS UTEC, and Garret turbo. The STS will also be the easiest install of all FI since it is Rear-Mounted.

JWT uses 2 different Turbo (BB 530 kit uses GT2554Rs. The BB700 kit uses GT2860Rs). Greddy uses Mitsu TD05H-18G. Unless they are the same then you are right

I had a Vortech. Great SC, but I couldnt find anyone to tune it in my area, so I couldnt keep it
