Going FI: but running too lean

Hey folks,

Just want to get some advice. Today I dynoed my car and my a/f was reading 15.4. Which is very lean. I am planning on going FI this August. The kit I'm looking to get is a Stillen SC Stage 4. My question is... will I be able to have it tuned to correct my A/F with management system it comes with? Or can I use a U-Tec? Can you tune Stillen with U-Tec? I've heard from a couple of people that you can't. What do I do? You're help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What RPM were you getting this? Stillen come with the SS box and that will take care of your A/F but it won't be tunable since it is locked. I don't know anyone that has used Utec with Stillen but I believe there was someone on M350Z who did use Emanage with stage 3.

okay after looking at my dyno sheet it looks like between 3300 rpm - 4200 rpm it was peaking near 15+ on a/f. my torq and hp lines are bumpy throughout the powerband. my a/f decreases to about 14.5 @ around 4400 rpm. then stays around that range til about 4900 rpm and just drops after that all the way to 13.5 at 6000+ rpm.

yeah, our stock ECU is programmed to run around this area. If you are cruising it is set to run around 14.7 coz this is the best area for power and fuel economy. ECU will always try to correct itself and you will never see it go low 13's on WOT. On FI you see the A/F around 10.8-11.8 for safety and not for Max power.

Don't worry about it for now and go get your Stillen coz the SS box is good for it's power.

Sounds right for near stock. The tuner will be able to make the car run as rich [or lean] as you want. No worries! Hurry up and get the whine!

Hey lek why and the hell didnt you just ask me,after all ive been stillen stage 4 for 4 years now and your only 50 miles from me.Dont worry about what your a/f reading is now cause the stillen fmu will take care of that for you. When im on full boost i see 11.2 a/f which is perfectly fine.Dont waist your money on a utec for the stillen it,s not worth it.

I agree that the UTEC is a lot of money to get a little better tune out of your car. It can be done but between the unit and the tune you will have a good $1k+ in it for maybe another 10-15hp (maybe less). Not worth it IMO unless you are going to swap out the kit later for twins or something else. I had a stage 2,3,4 for a while and A/F was never a problem.
