Short Block vs Long Block????

quick questions: i know this might sound stupid but here it goes anyways. if u buy a long block there is no need to buy a short block or is it a two different blocks? thinking about buying a built short block but if a long block consist of a short block than i am buying the long block instead of short block. any information would help. thanks.

A short block doesn't come with the heads. A long block does...So to answer your question if you buy a long block you don't need a short block...

If you buy a short block you will need heads. Not headers...The heads where the intake manifold goes...

I don't know why anyone would get a short block unless that are replacing a previously purchased long block. You certainly wouldn't want to put the OEM heads back on a beefed up short block - would you?

Short block will give you good reliability at power levels up to the mid or possibly upper 400's. If you want a really high hp car, then ya gotta do the long block.

Ummm, if you mean greater than 650 whp+... then doing some headwork helps. Nothing W/M injection or really BIG turbos couldn't take care of alternatively.

Short block is just fine for any reasonable street car.

Wrong again in another thread.

Other viewers please see this thread for details:

You do not need head work until you go over 600whp.

It always depends on what you want to do and how much money you can afford to spend.

By the time you pay to have the motor removed and a short block built... and probably turbo(s) installed, you've spent quite a bit of money. Some people decide to do the short block first and do the heads later.

It's easy to spend a couple of thousand more on just the cylinder heads. Everyone would like to get ported heads with oversized valves (maybe), new cams, new valve springs and titanium retainers, but they aren't cheap.
