JWT TURBOCHARGER

Re: JWT TURBOCHARGER
Loren,
I understood you were talking about a Mitsubishi T88 and my comments/opinion still stands. Comparing a Mitsu/Greddy T88 to a pair of GT28's will not give you the same driving experience. This is the exact point I was trying to make. One isn't better than the other per say. That's all I was getting at really. I already agreed twice that the a signle on a on our cars doesn't make sense, you brought up the Supra so I was commenting on that, I was not applying what I said to the G35, give me more credit. The point was that in my situation the single T04R made more sense, I wasn't trying to compare it to a T88 or a pair of GT28's. I know that GT turbos have been around a while but the GT used on by Nissan on the S14 is not related to the HKS GT series in wheel size, only the center cartridge is the same. Like I said before the HKS series has different wheels and housings, if you don't believe me oh well. Yes I switched the turbine housing on my T04R from the .96 that came in it to a .81 split chamber, sorry if I said .86 earlier I must have been thinking of the size that comes stock the GT28 kit. The T04R is essentially a T04S turbine with an HKS/Garrett proprietary compressor wheel and housing that is much larger that the S (also if anyone cares they have a BB version called the T04Z now!). In my experience comparing several dyno charts I had access to at HKS my set up peaked a lot sooner than cars with the twin kit that had the same cams and computer at the time. All I wanted was 600 wheel, so why waste all the money for over sizing like you said. I too was just trying to share some knowledge, just because you read something about a turbo on the Supra forums or on a map doesn't mean it's better info than real world experience. Who knows what ECU or gas or millions of other variables there could be when looking at comparisons from a bunch of different cars.
I agree with you about using a compressor map to size a turbo, it is invaluable. However that is only half the turbo. You can't get turbine maps from anyone because they are proprietary or they don't exist so you have to rely on experience to tell you weather spool up or flow will meet your needs, the compressor map is only going to tell you if the compressor will be in its efficiency range or not and is a guide, not the only tool to choose a turbo. A compressor map can tell you a turbo will be in its efficiency range for your application but if the turbine is too small or too large you can have crappy results.
To sum it all up lets end the lame hypothetical, these are the important points. A single would be hard to package, and the turbos Jim Wolf has chosen are great. I don't want to take away from this post about his products because I think they deserve real attention. Bottom line again, that turbo kit for a street kit looks like a sweet set up especially if the computer works as well as their older stuff and if it gets a CARB #. I'm all over it.
