There's no such thing as a built tranny that can handle 400whp/tq. The upgraded VB, TC, and cooler will insure (nothing is certain, though) that your tranny is okay at those levels. If you choose to build, your only option is to go all out.

But, like I said earlier, you can do those three first, and if you choose to replace the clutch packs later on, you can do that.

I got a flexalite Tranny Cooler, just got off the phone with Sam@GTM and I'm going to send my car in to get a TC and VB upgrade installed inhouse after its tuned at EDO. Thank you everybody, this thread actually turned out very well. So now i will have at least the peaceful state of mind. Stash up money on the side also incase of Tranny blows, if it does, 2 choices, new car? Or new Tranny? Hrmmm

You might want to look into replacing the factory clutch packets as well if you are going to do all that. The auto trannys are a lot different than the manual trannys. There are presure plates, springs, and clutch packets that take a lot of abuse. If you replace all of those throw on a TC and a valve body you will be in great shape.

how does getting a taller stall on the tq converter help stop the tranny from breaking? It's just needed for those who want to launch the hell out of their tranny.

617G what do you mean that there is no built tranny that can handle 400whp/trq? That is what built tranny's are intended to do...maybe not the whp but def. the trq.

I have the GTM built tranny ...yes built tranny including VB, TC and internals which includes more than clutchpacks. Saying that GTM has not proven themselves is a low blow as they do great work, I put 26,000 miles on my car a year and since I have had there upgrade I have had no issues. SGP is not the only shop that does this kind of work.

To the OP, I think you have more than enough info. to move forward with whatever you decide, I'm glad Sam could help you out.

I meant there's no specific kit for that power level. If you're going to build it, you have to go all out and it will handle power in the 600's.

The cluch packs are part of a full rebuild and that is why the price is around $4,000. You have to disassemble the tranny and replace parts. A lot of it is labor and not necessarily parts.

Currently SGP and GTM have upgraded clutch packs. SFR does a built tranny as well, but it has not been proven yet and quite frankly after the poor customer service I've seen from them I wouldn't buy anything from SFR.

Urban, I'm not trying to downplay GTM, but they just got into the built tranny business not too long ago. SGP has a much longer reputation. That's not to say theirs is not good, but they haven't proven it just yet. I'm sure in time they will

Even the best can have issues sometimes, that's to say nobody is pefect.

But if I wanted a shop to do this kind of work then the 2 shops mentioned are the only ones I would go to.

I used Link, You'll need some adapters for it though, and some hoses.
