Did you ever check your oil levels following that?

no I did not because I provided them with a full case of Mobil 1 Synthetic and a new oil filter to change..I asked how much they used and they said the entire case since I had added in the JWT oil spacer.

I see..Perhaps you could have had a slight leak or were burning oil..How many miles did you drive before it blew? And were you boosting when it blew or part throttle?

If you were just cruising part throttle when it went, it was probably an oil related issue at the big ent of the rod, causing it to lock up, bend and then break..

If you drove the car many miles since the install and tune, most likely it was not tune related IMO.

my maps from teh UTEC...when it blew I was just cruising at something like 65-70mphs...nothing fancy...I had the car re-tuned about 2-3 times....I had the procharger re-built the lasttime and the final tune which is shown below and I had installed the VB upgrade at that time and just a finer tune..I was running the 9psi pulleys on the kit....I may have driven roughly 800-1000 miles total on the engine from that tune to the engine blowing..

timing map.

I can not see that, its too small...Were you datalogging at the time? Did it pick up knock? I still am on the oil related issue. The other feasable explanation is detonation beating up the rod bearings, causing the bearings to spin, then seize, snapping the rod..Does the rod have a sort of "twists" to it at the point it broke?

I'm a g35 noob and was getting excited about saving for a FI. Ironically, the one I thought of getting was the one that just blew your engine. You just changed my mind.

I'll put in a nice Fast Intension exhaust, some drop in K & N filters, new wheels, demon lights, blacked out headlamps and be done with it. Maybe uprev or whatever that stuff is about (still learning).

Very sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing though.

KC23-That's the nature of going FI. There is NO kit that is 100% safe. Anytime you go FI, you have to understand that there is always a chance of something going wrong. You will always have some people that use a kit forever and never have a problem and there will be some people that have issues right from the start. If you seriously are/were thinking about going FI, you should not base your decision on just one person's experience. Do research on my350z.com and here and talk to different people about it. At that point, you can make a more informed decision about what you wanna do. Being FI is a lot of fun but you have to be ready for some headaches too occasionally.

The newb pulls a post from almost 2 years ago to make a pointless point about FI....

You reallly need to do more homework as there are plenty of cars that have not blown their engines going FI.

I'm just not knowledgable enough to go that route. Bad enough taking a chance to have to pay for a blown engine without also having to pay several thousand for the previledge to take that chance to begin with.

The only reason this happen was going FI on a stock block. Thats like taking a chance at the poker table. The ODs could be very high or low and alot of factors go into this..

One eason why i built mines "low compression" from the start.

Just because you have a built block doesn't save you from the pitfalls of FI and poor tunes or even bad engine builds. Nobody is safe from blowups, stock or built.
