yeah I was never told when I picked up the car to never not run over 5500rpms if that was a danger zone......

 

Hey Chris, just so you know ... I removed my upper plenum this weekend to clean it out and mine looked just about as bad as your (minus the coolant).

I installed dual catch cans for this reason because the addition of FI makes the oil vapor blow-by intensified 10-fold. Now that you're going back to stock I don't think it's as much of an issue but I would still recommend a catch can at least on the passenger side instead of letting it collect in the "lower collector" as Nissan intended and then being burnt in the combustion chamber.

I can't believe I waited this long to do this, I had so much oil blow-by coming through my plenum spacer I had to do something. I will post up pictures elsewhere of what I found...

Interesting, those ARC catch cans are super pricey but they are pretty!

Well I just did a Top Speed catch can on the passenger side and then did the home made DIY catch can on the drivers side (using an air compressor filter unit). I've already caught some oil after driving only 10 - 20 miles!! That's oil that had been recirculated back into the intake for 34k boosted miles!

I had the ARC vers 1 on my passenger side and when I removed it after 1500 miles...not one thing of oil had gone into it...it was dry.

 

There is a valve cover vent on both sides, the passenger side is directed back into the lower plenum, the drivers side is directed into the intake. Here are some links for ya...

Did you have this installed at the same time as the Procharger or was this when you were still NA? I'd be surprised if no oil was trapped with the Procharger unless that ARC catch can is just a bad design?

After a lot of research here and on my350z I ended up throwing some stainless steel cleaner pads inside the catch can to atomize the oil vapor and catch the oil. I ended up using a clear/braided vacuum hose from Home Depot where I can see the oil collecting on the hose barb already...

 

well from what I understand ATI is internall oiled...I dont run to my oil pan at all....the places on the plenum have been routed through the ARC catch can...on top of that you know the hose that connects to the backside by the throttle body that plugs into the Z tube or G-tube which ever you have....I had that welded shut on mine and tied it into the ARC oil catch can as well..

It doesn't really have anything to do with how the ATI is oiled ... it's the additional boost pressure from FI that causes more blow-by than NA which is why I asked if you did it pre-boost or not. When you see oil inside the plenum, it is typically coming from the passenger side valve cover PCV valve outlet (where the catch can is installed between).

With the Vortech, the drivers side valve cover outlet (no PCV valve) is directed back into the air filter just before the blower impeller so there is a great deal of vacuum there as compared to NA. I'm not sure how the ATI reroutes the drivers side valve cover vent, if it just goes to atmosphere (messy) or if it's also redirected into the intake...
