Ok so I've been reading stuff for the last few hours and most people agree that the emanage blue is crap to ditch it and get utec or something to that nature. Ok my dilemma I'm doing a TT install for a customer and currently waiting on the engine from the machine shop so I haven't gotten to the electronics yet. What should I suggest to him to get instead of the current blue and E01 setup he has lined up to install. Keep in mind he has already maxed out his budget. What solution would be less expensive to either buy up front or cost him less to install. Looked like the UTEC might be real easy to install just plug in and tune but maybe I'm wrong. Also what about boost control does the UTEC handle that or would he still need a boost controller.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but as someone doing this install, shouldn't you be familiar with piggyback ECU's and boost controllers?
Who is doing the actual tune of the car??????
The E01 is a great EBC btw!

I'm a small shop getting back into performance stuff after about a two year break due to personal stuff that was going on. Normally I use what comes with the kits but this is the first I've heard complaints about the fuel management. Typically most of the turbo cars we have come through started as a turbo car such as Evo's, WRX's and SRT4's. My mechanic did a few of these Greddy kits when they first came out but we never heard any complaints from the customers about any problems not sure how hard they ran them though back then it was usually richer people that didn't even drive their cars much. As for tuning it depends on what managements system is used I'll pick one a several local shops I use for tuning. Some places I only trust with certain cars or management systems as we don't have a dyno at our shop.
That being said I want to make sure the customer gets exactly what he wants a reliable TT setup. I just happen to run into this emanage reliability problem here cause I was looking for better install direction after looking at the Greddy install manual and realizing what crap it is and my mechanics notes didn't hold up well over the past few years. If the emanage isn't going to be reliable I need to hurry up and find a better solution to present to him so he can sell the emanage and get funds for a real solution.

The reason the Emanage blue is crap is because it cannot control timing.
Utec or Emanage Ultimate will do the job just fine if he's on a budget. Just make sure to get the MAP sensors for each. I personally don't like the Utec because it's a serial connection and you have to do EVERYTHING from scratch; if you don't have a good basemap, tuning is going to take a very long time.
The Ultimate is USB based, and much easier to tune as it feeds off of the ECU. I've had my Ultimate on my twins for a year now and it feels great.
There has been a debate about the Utec vs Emanage Ultimate since the dawn of time and you will get people on both sides. They will both to the job, but you need to understand the pros and cons of both.
The Utec is PNP, but Greddy now offers a harness for the Ultimate and the G35 ECU.
Good luck!

^ he is exactly right.
Ok Ill give the options to my customer. I read some things about emanage not being to good on G/Z due to the factory ecu eventually recompensating for it and eventually going to crap. Also the customer wants to run two boot levels 5PSI and 10PSI which ones are tuned based off of the MAP and not just a WOT setting. I've heard the emanage blue can only be tuned for one boost setting and if you change the boost you have to redo the fuel map.

GReddy boost controllers suck at high boost, if you plan to say under 10PSI then I guess its O.K. I would recommend a HKS EVC6 or Blitz SBC
As far as EMS, if you are on a budget the best piggy back would be a UTEC, interface sucks, but it gives you pretty good control once you get it down.
If your customer can afford it, recommend a standalone EMS, VPro, Haltech, MoTeC, etc.
Good luck!

Would like to add, if you use the e-manage blue (w/o ignition harness and a SUPER conservative tune), the engine will not last very long depending on how the car is driven.

+1...If you can get pass the interface then Utec > Ultimate any day!!! Ultimate still scale of the ECU so you are still at the mercy of the ECU, and we all know how the stock ECU sometimes changes... Utec has absolute control of the timing and fuel just like the a full stand alone out there. Utec also as active knock control so you can set how much timing you want to pull in case knock is detected. I rather deal with a one time tuning with a serial connection with all the added safety than have a nice GUI like interface EMS with average control
Does the UTEC come with or have a way I can throw on map that will be in the ballpark of what he'll need to cut down on tuning costs. He's already about 15K into the project and his wife hasn't found out yet.

I don't know were 617G got the idea of having Utec tuned from scratched. Turboxs does give you a wide variety of Turbo kit and injector size Map that you can upload. Go here and you can also download the Manual so you can get your self familiar with it http://www.turboxs.com/utec350zupdate.htm. Just download the closes injector size you have and just use the 0 column on the Fuel Table to scale your injector.
Thanks, I'll look into it and get familiar with it. Unfortunately he doesn't have the funds right now so he's going to have me put on the emanage blue and he will drive it like that for a month or two untill he comes up with money for something else. I think he was looking at one of the HKS fuel computers are they any good in this application. Also does anybody have a better write up of the electrical stuff that comes in the Greddy TT kit. As stated before their directions suck what exactly is the ignition module that comes with the kit doing anyway?

Just so you know, the tune the Emanage blue comes with is very dangerous,
If you MUST use it, back off on the timing, and run that b*tch in the low 10's high 9's AFR.
You know your timing is too low when the EGT's get above 900' celcuis, even though this is a bad way to gauge how much timing to run, you should be tuning with headphones and a knock listening device.
