Vortec vs JWT (SC vs TT) - Owners need your feedback
Okey so its been about a year of shopping now and my undecisive looking over the shoulders of countless tunners.. I thought I had lost my want for more power especially with cali's laws getting stricter and stricter.. The biggest decesion maker was I wantto be able to drive my car into LA and want to enjoy it daily from streets to track. I also like to fix up the appearance of it as well.. Its currently lambo blue but I'm getting a little tired of it and want to go for a "cleaner" look.. then this weekend flip the switch for me when I met up with some buddies with a z06, busa, and cobra
So heres whats I'm looking for.. I want to hit 390-420whp on my 20"x11.5" rim.. The only kits I would consider is: Vortec and JWT Kit..
Vortec
1. CARB badge.. even if I get the pully kit and push it I'd still like to not completely shi1 myself when hearing "can you please pop your hood" from LA's finest..
2. They hold up quite well and the kit very cheap in the FI family from Power:Reliability
esign.
3. I would probably like the way the supercharger powers the car then the JWT and I'd be able to tune it mechanically a lot better then Turbo.. I can create a nice rounded curve that'll just be great kick *** power band for daily driving
JWT TT
1. LOTS and LOTS and LOTS and LOTS and MORE potential
2. POWERRRR
3. Very complete and well made kit with high quality parts
4. POWERRR
5. Local company..
6. POWERR!!
vs
Vortec
1. Lower potential with compaired to the JWT TT kit and I may want to - I will want - more power.. in the future =) My goal may be 400whp now but we all want to go faster and it'll great hard in the future from what I've seen
2. More mechanical parts. Which is why I never liked superchargers but this IMO beats the hell out of a screw or root charger.
3. I'll probably spend about the same it would take for me do a JWT TT set up.. Money for me fcking around on misc stuff with intake runners and headers to get it the way I want since I wont be touching the car for a while after this. I have no chance when it I go into battle with my Mod-Bug.. My a$$ gets handed to me everytime =PP
JWT TT
1. I HATE CALI..
2. Its quiet =DD out of the box installed its pretty stealthy..
3. I never liked driving big turbo cars.. going into 1st in a sharp corner and you have to watch the throttle when you enter boost since theres such a big power difference in a few thousand RPMs.. but in a straight.. IMO theres no substitute for raw power
4. Potential of (maybe one day) a built motor and a LOT of power..
5. Dual intercooler.. I duno what I'm going to do with two seperate ones.. I kinda wished it was stuck together like the other TT kits.. thats more $$ to convert.
6. Cant install myself no way I can pull the motor at home.
7. and again.. I hate SMOG.. I hate CARB.. I hate those test stations.. I hate that officers here can have you pop the hood when your vehicle looks "suspecious" to their eyes..
Questions and purpose of this thread
I want to hear it from you vortec/procharger owners.. What did you guys have to do to get into 450whp zone? (450whp cause I run some stupidly heavy tires that'll probably set me back to 400 lol - right now I loose almost 20whp on my 20s when compaired to OEM 19s)..
I dont read the forum much so anyone running high wHP supercharged VQs? I know Avo packs a lot of power but his sounds CRAZZY.. I kinda need it to idle a little quietly ._. Would a rebuild with a SC kit ever bring me close to the 500s? or am I just going to be sitting there sounding like a jet idling at +1,000 to turn the pully..
Does the JWT TT kit come with a fuel kit? pump, rails, injectors etc..
Anyone in socal want to let me drive their SC G around? for like 15-20min? =P.. so the purpose of the thread is me in hopes of catching someone with the set up I'm looking for so I can pick your brain from the owner's point of view.

As for a Procharger owner myself, can't really go over 400whp without trying to keep the belt from chewing it self up, especially if you build it, talked to GTM about it because I was about to do a build, but in the end I just switched to a HKS S.C. Why not not go a hks eric? I bought a vortech and returned it because I was too worried of the bearing problems etc. that they had for quite some time. Seeing that you care about carb-legal, I suggest you just go with a Vortech if anything, change the pulley and slap on a few extras you'll be around the whp you want. But you also cant go wrong with a jwt tt either
It's up to you, good luck buddy.

only reason why SC was inmind was because of Vortech's carb sticker.. HKS is a no go because imma 2006 6MT (revup)..
yeah from what I'm seeing its pretty hard to get that high on a SC =(( making my goal to run into 12s kinda hard..
G35Rider what whp are you at and fuel system? etc.. I have the cost of everything pretty much down already with the exception of the fuel system and give or take a few other misc things I may have to do..
BTW I found a pretty cool thread on Z forums.. http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=343019
and is it just me or is G35driver very slow =(
EDIT: after seriously thinking about it and slapping myself back to reality.. would a rebuild be better? the downside to a rebuild is if I DO get a emissions ticket.. x.x its more then just taking off the kit.. or throw in the serious $$ and start from scratch with another VQ and keep a whole engine laying around just incase?
Biggest fear is getting pulled because my G is BRIGHT blue =(
EDIT: damn I wished JWT kept working on getting their TT CARB approved =(

Wassup Eric. haha, you know what's funny is that almost exactly a year ago, I started this exact same thread. Vortech or JWT TT. No matter how many people you get opinions from, it comes down to you. I was torn between the JWT TT and the Vortech. But in the end, the CARB friendliness of the Vortech won out. And if your goals are to run 12's, you can definitely do that with the Vortech. The JWT TT definitely gives you the potential for much more power but when are you really gonna be able to use that power. I am at almost 400whp and it is more than enough. But like I said, it comes down to you. IMHO, you really can't lose either way. Either way, you will still have boost and you will have TONS of fun. My best suggestion would be to ride in a car with a Vortech and then one with a JWT TT. And if that doesn't work, flip a coin.
I know how you feel bro, I went through this exact thing last year. Let me know if you want a ride in my G.

LOL Hector.. yeah I'm STILL torn between the two and the more I look at it the JWT takes the win everytime.. but then a week later another story or thread about fix-its has me running back into vortech.. but I seriously need to find a vortec car to drive.. I've driven JWT TT on a stock block (350z) and another JWT TT fully built and TT upgraded.. IMO the upgraded TT is more then what I want.. it the power is too IMO uncontrolable and will need to take some getting use to.. I've ridden in a vortech and its just power all the way through the band..
But keep in mind Hector I can run my 325 or maybe even a 335 after I'm done redoing the body
with a 255 front x.x Want to let me drive your G? I'll buy you that steak dinner =P nothing crazy just around the streets and if possible up and down a few turns during accel.. just want to see the difference is and it'll probably throw me towards the vortec..
lastly is it vortec or vortech o.O

I'm not in cali, so I don't know much about the laws, but how many people actually get carb tickets????
IMO the JWT is a better kit because you can turn up the boost if you want more power. 400whp will prob feel slow after a few months, and you will want to build up for more boost.
The only problem for you is that your car is very flashy, and if I was a cop I would want you to pop the hood because it looks very modded to begin with. The JWT is a very stealthy kit compared to say the turbonetics, mabe a shop could make a stealth intake to hide it. The other thing is if you get the vortech, you will probably make it non-carb leagal if you add test-pipes, or pullys anyway.
In the end you need to decide if you want to have 420ish whp and be legal, or have the same horsepower with the ability (built motor) to go 500+ but be illegal.

BTW, it's Vortech.
I'm putting 347.8whp on a DynoJet, on a dynapack it would reach much higher, since each dyno reads different and because when Church Automotive Tuned my car it was 353.9whp, when I took it to GTM, it came out on his dyno at 303whp which was a suprisingly shocking difference and detonating at high rpms
Which is a no no and GTM fixed everything and now it's 347.8whp, so considering that info you can tell what my hp would be on each dynos. As for fuel system, I am not running any fuel return system, I just have 550cc Power Enterprise Injectors and a Walbro 255. Yeah man taking that your car is bright blue, just go with the Vortech. And if you slapped your self and thought about going just fully built, smack your self again cause your doing what I did too
Just go with a SC, it will be safe and reliable if tuned and installed right, and it is carb legal too, and there is a big difference from NA going boosted so you'll have a blast, no regrets.
Btw you decide who will install and/or tune it yet?

if i had to worry about carb legal **** i would get the vortech..since i don't have that issue i went with the tt..and..no regrets
i thought jwt was getting close to approval

I love my JWT TT, and wouldn't change it for anything, except if I lived in California.
The CARB status of the Vortech makes it the winner for Cali cars. Everything else, the JWT wins.

Ever since 2 of my friends got pulled over last week I have had the same feeling in the back of my mind, should I go back to the Vortech or stick it out. I have your kenstyle rear bumper Eric but have not put it on because I think it will draw added attention to myself.
Even with the upgraded pulley no cop is going to know the difference so you should be safe with a slight upgrade on the Vortech. If I did go back then I would add any bodykit I wanted to and put some gauges in clear sight as I would not be concerend about being pulled over.
I got pulled over twice when I was SC and both times they just looked at the kit and let me go.
