FI Decisions~
Hey guys, I have a 05 6mt coupe
I was recently looking into a new car mainly the 335i, but after seeing some FI'd 350z's and g35's the other day, I kind of had a change of heart lol.
I'm completely new to the FI world, and I wanted to ask for help in terms of what parts and costs would go with going FI on a G.
I wanted to go with the vortech s/c kit, but what else will I need with the kit to run "safe?" also, how much should I be looking to spend (a ballpark figure). I'm not looking for crazy power since I have a busa that gets that done for me, but I wanted a good kick from the G so thats how I decided that the vortech was a kit for me.
Thanks!!

The vortech kit is in itself a very safe kit for FI. I ran my SC kit on a stock motor with stock injectors and fuel pump, without a tune for over a month and had no problems. The week point with the vortech is the fuel pump. The stock fuel pump even with the votech FMU maxed out does not give the engine enough fuel. You technically do not need injectors at all. The stock injectors flow well enough for most vortech applications. An oil cooler is a good thing to have but not necessary. Another great thing to have that express did not mention is an oil pan spacer

i dont have a unichip, but the only reason why i have a utec is becuase i have the tuner kit. it doesnt come with the FMU or any of that, so its necessary.
the reason why i didnt get an oil pan spacer is becuase you dont need one. i tapped my block and its just fine.
i hope you can agree that its not necessary, only unless you dont want to drill a hole into your block.

New full Vortech kits now come with the Unichip. The Unichip pretty much sucks. Why they stopped using the Split Second fmu, I have no clue. But if you are just gonna use the kit out of the box, you should be fine as is. If you are gonna go with the tuner kit, I agree with 705's recommendations. That's a nice basic setup that will get you to the power levels that you want.

Jim,
Before you make any move in regards to forced induction, I highly recommend you take atleast 1-2 months of intensive research. Trust me, there's nothing like dropping 10k into a car and then regretting it because you got the wrong kit for your needs/wants.
Seeing how you're not in California, I would probably recommend the JWT 530's. With a good conservative tune, it should be more than fine on the stock block. But this is just one alternative of the many out there.
Goodluck,
-Henry

I would recommend getting the tuner kit w/ 550cc injectors (at least), utec, walbro & Stage .5 Fuel retrun kit, oil pan spacer to keep the oil cooler(but still tap the block). This should give you a good amount of power and keep you SAFE. Plus will save you money down the road. I bought the full kit over a year ago and since then completly upgraded it.
Good luck

if u want "kick" stay away from the vortec, nice power and all but it will not have the kick a turbo will have and if that what you want i would go with turbonetic/aps single/ powerlabs. i recommend single only for price aspect. the aps kit is real complete with fuel system, injectors, etc..
