Although, I guess saying its JDM and having to use 1 off parts from GTM , and waiting 6 months or more if something goes wrong with the unit wit well worth the price of admission!

LOL
What is it, 8-9k for that?? Not that bad too me I could afford it. I bought a Vortech and returned it haha Was too scared to install it cause of that defect issue few months back that was fail.

As for people bashing on gtm, yeah they do take long, yeah they do charge alot, if you can afford it and are willing to wait, then you go there. Do you guys even realize how busy the shop is? It's the biggest shop I ever seen in SoCal that works on import cars. But I hate it when some people criticize the shop like they can't even install an intake and look at them like it some local small shop, when they built more shiet for vqs way more then almost all the shops I know of and are as equally as good as any top notch shops out there, but again we all know, once you're on top you get haters, every good shop has haters, from the little pigeons that go to ghetto shops and pay less money for their shiet.

HKS cost more than the vortech, thats fact, hks has good potential, thats fact, where da fvck you guys getting your info that it doesnt. Info all seems to be taught by the same person or group haha. If you have money for it and want HKS then you buy it, it's as simple as that, on a budget? buy a vortech

I dont go bashing on Vortech or other shops, even if I dont like the shop or that person, I still respect them cause I know they do good work, and they have happy customers. I'm very fair and look at facts even if I hate them.

Dont get me wrong though, I love the vortech supercharger! Plus As long as its better than stock just like str8dum1 said! Except Procharger ha ha

HKS is a nice unit but you are stuck having it 'pro' installed by a HKS dealer.

Also, if you want more power than out of the box, you cannot buy mainstream HKS parts, only 1 offs from 1 company. Not bashing GTM, its actually quite astonishing all the custom parts they turn out for all the platforms.

But anyone not in the GTM circle of HKS blower upgrades (believe or not, there are alot of enthusiasts not on the forums and not as well informed as us ) will be stuck ~330 hp. While with a vortech, u can go to vortechsuperchargers.com and buy pulleys to give you 20 psi if you wish.

Maybe in the near future HKS will have more support and offer their own upgrades as well.

JonnyLaw made great #'s but thats completely 1 off, as no other HKS setup comes anywhere close to those #'s. You woulda had to put Nitrous on Marbles or G35(7)rider's car to make anywhere close to that.

Plus, for that price, you'd be running a T-trim which no one has had problems with.

Either option though is better than stock, just depends on your budget.
I definetly agree with you. For the majority of persons wanting to S/C, w/ minimal hassle and "reasonable budget", Vortech is a great choice, offering different blowers and pulleys straight from the source. There are many many people with Vortech setups with great results, w/out the need to make custom 1 off parts and/or go to "pro" dealers.

With that said, there will always be a segment of the modding community that seek exclusivity/jdmnesss/etc. This is how I look at the HKS GT S/C. It is limited out of the box, and somewhat expensive, but was exactly what I wanted. I was lucky enough to speak to Sam@GTM who agreed to do what no other shop would (make a custom kit for my g35 coupe revup), and improve upon what HKS provides out of the box--Thanks again Sam! Yes, the cost is higher than other setups, but I was willing to pay to play.

It's just like the other parts on my car (Amuse, ARC, Endless, etc.)--I could have spent much less for similar performance, but I luv jdm parts. I know I am not in the majority, but there are a few of us out there

Also, HKS is developing a larger blower for more power out of the box and from what I understand HKSUSA and GTM have a close relationship, and for good reason, Sam has improved the GT S/C, not just in power levels, but in other areas as well, such as the IAT issue.

Bottom line is that it takes much effort, money, and supporting mods to squeeze out decent power out of the current HKS SC, but for me (as some others) it was well worth it.

Every setup has its pluses and minuses. Both Vortech and HKS offer great SC's. As with any F/I setup, research is key, in order to understand what you will be most pleased with. What's ideal for one person, may not be so for another. To the op and others considering boost, recognize your budget, goals, etc. and go from there. There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum and 350z to help.

Happy Boosting

The Vortech can be a very reliable set up if you can resist dropping pulley sizes, adding bigger injectors, etc. Out the box with a tune will get you anywhere from 340 to 365 rwhp. I drove a 3.12 setup from Chicago to San Diego in three days with no problems. I actually got about 20 mpg highway. Did I mention the engine had about 75k miles when I added the SC?

To answer your question, it'll make an excellent DD. The most reliable setup would be the stock pulley with a conservative tune.
