so here's the latest greatest boys and girls...

I went to Infiniti of Norwood and explained the chattering noise the motor was making as well as the issue with the oil light coming on and the SES light coming on

They ended up telling me I am 2qts low on oil and suggested i have an oil change done with an oil consumption test performed (which basically means they mark the dipstick and I have to drive around for 2500 miles to see if the oil level drops. THey said since I'm still under the warranty for the motor they'll replace it no problem if it comes to oil consumption as being the culprit. They said the chattering noise is from the oil pressure being low and that it will go away once the oil level is back to normal which will put the oil pressure back to normal.

Its a good thing I have a warranty for the motor but I feel like I wasted my day putting the motor back to stock to be told I'm 2qts low on oil...

So now I'm going to leave the motor stock for another month before even considering putting the vortech on. I want to make sure the motor is ok before I even put the SSV manifold and stuff back on. Last thing I want is to go FI on the motor and shortly thereafter the motor gives out and the warranty is gone

so I'll stick to the plan and polish the vortech kit until I'm ready to install it

Did you have to do the full 3000 mile test before they replaced it?

i dont undertand how dealerships use that as a valid test. I mean what customer wouldnt just drain a few quarts of oil out of their pan so they could get a new motor?

either way, good luck!! the next month will go by quick.

I was really looking forward to reporting some sick numbers and a ton of highway fun taking the long way to work after the tune.

Guess we just have to wait a little longer

Don't the dealerships mark the drain plug some way to make sure it hasnt been removed or tampered with during the testing interval for the OC test??

I assume they do. I was legitimately 2qts low on oil so its not like I have to go out of my way to fudge the numbers or anything fo the OC test results to determine that I have a OC motor that needs replacement under my warranty.

For me its just a waiting game but in the end I'm gonna get my new motor and then the vortech goes on

so I just got back from the dealership getting my oil changed and they made note for the OC test so I have to drive it for 1,000 miles and go back for the results. They said the average that is usually consumed is 1/4 of a quart. If its more than that they make me drive for another 1,000 miles and check again. If it is lower than the last time they replace the motor. THey said it takes a week to get the new motor. They'll put more oil in the car and have me take it home until the new motor arrives. Then they will call me and put me in a loaner for the 3 days it will take them to do the replacement

will keep everyone posted on the results

yeah man I definitely don't get the impression I'm getting jerked around by the dealership. I'm fairly confident they'll be putting in a new motor in a few short weeks
