A/F ratio should NOT be 14.7 if NA...they should only be 14.7 during part throttle driving regardless of your car being NA or FI. At WOT they should probably be in the high 12's NA and high 11's FI give or take.

 

for the sake of simplicity, i provided the stoichiometric AFR for an NA engine. yes, this is mostly seen at idle & cruise (which is the primary time when you'll actually be able to look at the gauge, lol), but you'd run slightly richer at WOT to get max power. most NA cars will run even richer / lower AFRs (12s & 13s) for added safety and emissions.

FI cars are a whole other story

 

I vote A/F, Oil Press, Boost, Tranny Temp (Auto) or EGT (Manual). It's really not necessary to read water temp down to 1 degree resolution - the stock guage will tell you quite nicely if you are running hot or not.

 

Do your nexus gauges sometimes not turn on (one or more of them) if you start the car too fast? I've noticed mine have to be allowed to begin their 'init' sequence before starting the car or they never come on... been driving me nuts.

 

Simple fix... I just turn the key to "ON", wait for the Walbro to spin up and get pressure (1000, 2000) then turn the key to "Start". It works every time - No more trouble.

 

True, but it doesn't take 5+ seconds for the Walbro to spin up. That's how long you have to wait for the gauges to initialize properly before you start it. In fact, even the remote start causes the gauges to malfunction so I don't even use that anymore.

Even when they are working, you can't see them very well in bright light. If you're wearing sunglasses it's even worse, don't even bother looking at them.

No audible warning capability even though they make a loud beep when you turn them on.

They are loud as hell during init/shutdown.

No serial output for external data logging

I could go on....

POS gauges.

Especially given the ridiculous price tag, I would never, ever recommend these gauges to anyone.

 

How does it take you guys 5+ seconds for the walbro to spool up? I had a walbro in my GTI and I would start it just like every other car and it would start up instantly.

 

Did you even read my post? Jeez, this has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH A WALBRO nor did I state it takes that long.

 

+1 Under normal driving conditions A/F should be in the mid 14's under WOT between 11 and 12. I would say anything higher than 12 at WOT is too lean for FI.

 

When you get your car tuned, make sure they have a "power" map and also a "fuel economy" map. The power map will be tuned richer, while the fuel economy map (for regular cruising) will be tuned leaner for better fuel economy. Obviously, you won't want to be boosting in the fuel economy map, but it will make a huge difference in fuel economy. I get about 5 MPG more with the fuel economy map on my car, so it does save me a lot of money on gas.

 

Oopss...I read does instead of doesn't... you don't have to blow up though.

 

I only switch "on", count 1 - 2, then go to start - I do not let the gauges go through the full startup before starting the car. Give that a shot. If you find the amber hard to see, try the white.

I did get a replacement gauge from Autometer once and the glass was much darker than my other gauges. I ended up not using that one because it was too dark. Yours may fall into that category - get Autometer to replace it.
