How does your FI hold up in very hot dense weather?

Well this is just a generic question to all who boosted in areas which are experiencing very hot "Heat wave" type weather.

I myself haven't had the chance to take my car out since being overseas an all however, I will be home soon an looks like the weather back home is quite as hot at the middle east. I went to the extreme in cooling mods knowing what I was to expect from summer months in area I live in which is MD.

I just want to know how everyone is holdin up with these temps out here.

1. How is your car responding to the heat?
2. How is your oil temps looking?
3. Does your EGT show extreme heat temps? Are you experiencing high engine temps?
4. Are you setting your turbo timers to stay on longer?
5. Most important how much/hard are you pushin it "meaning" being on boost...

When my car was on the road I would feel power loss during heat waves hence my reason for going meth/water injection.

EGT's didn't change since they usually much higher than ambient temp anyway
no turbo timer my turbos have water jackets
I always pushed it

As long as you've got a decent sized oil cooler on there, you should be fine. I have a small one and oil temps routinely hit 230-250 in the summer. My coolant temp stays below 200 and trans temp below 210 for the most part (bigger coolers). W/M injection drops air intake temps from 20-40 degrees over ambient to 20 degrees below ambient, so it's a great cure for the summer heat.

Car responds fine in the heat but I don't really push it hard in the daytime here in Miami when temps are up.
Oil temps don't seem to be much of big issue right now.
Car's not overheating at all... even during mid-afternoon stop-n-go traffic that we get here in downtown Miami sometimes.
I always let it idle before shutting off, especially after hitting boost
Daytime I dont push it as hard as I do at night... Completely different at night im out there beating on the car a lot..

No probs here... got the GTM PWR radiator which practically doubles the coolant capacity, oil cooler and vented hood... all temps stay pretty good. Only thing I have issues with is the A/C when sitting in traffic which seems to be fairly common on the VQ's. Need to heat wrap the lines.

I'd say as long as you have a good oil cooler you should be good.

I actually enjoy the hot weather cuz the nitto's stick REAL good

I have no oil cooler nor tranny cooler ( I'm 5AT ) and have yet to have a problem due to heat ( I push it every day and there is no such thing as winter where I live ). The only thing I notice is that the car is somewhat slower during the day than at night which is to be expected I guess.

Turbos heat the oil more than superchargers due to the hot oil return lines, so you could be fine as long as you don't track your car. But I will still say you're putting added stress on your bearings as I'm sure your oil temps are getting pretty high. Barnabas (local mid-A guy) measured 230+ degress on his oil (without a cooler) just from freeway driving not even boosting. I have never seen good things come from omitting the trans cooler on a 5At though, good luck with that...

Pathfinder cooling kit
Mishimoto performance Radiator

The reason you have the AC issue with the car not moving is because the intercooler, AC conderser and thick radiator are preventing the radiator fans from pulling air through all 3. The AC condenser doesn't get air flow at all with the car not moving because of it. Only the radiator does. I've seen this problem with 2 DSMs. I'll post a pic soon with the way to fix it.

I thought with that radiator you would lose AC since there is no room for the AC condenser. Did you mod the radiator support to make it all fit? That radiator is basically the size of a semi truck radiator.

Here is a fix for it. 2 fans blowing air in the engine bay and one in the engine bay sucking air in.

^^ The A/C condensor fits. The top attaches fine to the PWR but you have to remove the lower tabs and screw the bottom directly to the fiberglass support. GTM sent me special instructions after I poked a hole in the PWR trying to do it without removing the lower tabs..

I retained the OEM crash bar and the intercooler is the biggest u can fit without cutting anything...not much room for extra fans in between

The A/C issues when stopped only really happen in 100+ degree weather (or 95+ with lots of humidity) so it's 'good enough' for me.

That's amazing that the AC condenser fits. That is a HUGE radiator. Thanks for the info.
