I didn't do it, my shop did, I think they somehow used a hole where a bolt already was and used a longer bolt but I actually don't know.

He had to use a 10mm bolt though because at first he tried using a 8mm bolt - maybe 8mm is the stock bolt size? and bored it out to fit a 10mm bolt or something? I'm really not sure I remember, but the 8mm bolt setup didn't cut it and the pulley actually started wiggling off while on the dyno until it pretty much came off and was hanging at a 45 degree angle and causing sparks

he used some loktite on the 10mm bolt

my car had some slight slippage up top with the 3.12 pulley before using this extra pulley. Now with the 2.87 pulley even there's no slip

the only issue I'm kinda paranoid about right now is the belt is just barely clearing the cam sprocket or timing chain or whatever that part sticking thru the vortech plate. It clears it by about 1mm when the engine is cold, but when hot it's right on it, though I haven't seen any severe rub marks yet. I'm going to still have that new pulley brought out an extra mm with a spacer or something

Yikes, sparks on a dyno doesn't sound too good! Well thanks for the info, even though it doesn't sound like a DIY job it is definitely an option.

I'm still in the 3.33 pulley club until I can find some disposable cash to upgrade my injectors/fuel pump and go with the 3.12!

Unhappy Don't Ask!!

Randy - No, I haven't forgotten about that ride I promised ya BUT John & I made a tactical mistake which set the project back about 6 weeks!
I/we decided to wait on ARP to release those 7/16" L19 head studs so that we'd feel more comfortable about pushing the Vortech up into the 20#+ boost range. Of course, as with any new product there were delays & just about the time Sharif said the first shipment was due to go out John called me & asked why we didn't just use some ARP 1/2" studs instead?? Yea, I know - where was THIS idea 6 weeks earlier?? We just BOTH had brain farts, I suppose. He emailed me earlier today & said that the engine was due to be assembled starting next week so I'm hopeful that I'll have the car by early-mid July. Not gonna rush John - we still haven't decided what to do about the tranny concerns. We're leaning toward using a 4L80E - any thoughts here, Randy?
John has already done the DSS axles & Quaife so the weak link appears to be the A/T since the motor should be bulletproof - well, ya ain't seen me drive!!
I'll keep everyone in the loop because I miss my baby!! Told John that I wanted to fly back over & have him push me around the block to see if it still handled good!!!!

Randy - John & I both contacted Tim with Speed Force Racing & for about the same price ( $4k ) we can go either way. There'll be less fabricating with the Nissan tranny so I'm leaning that way. I kinda feel like I'm already stepping into unchartered territory with pushing a Vortech'ed motor as far as John & I want to ( 700 hp + nitrous ) so I might play it safe(er) by staying with the import tranny. Still gonna try to integrate that paddle shift system John found!!

Have you fabricated an all cog belt system ? I expect DSport to come out with the one Vortech made for them soon .

And if your sticking with the Stock tranny . WHat plans do you have to build it ? If you dont mind me asking

Bill - John wants to wait for the DSport system but U know him - if it's not up to his specs then he'll custom fabricate one for me!! As U well know ( since U've been there first! ), anything in the double digit boost range lends itself to belt slippage ( even with our larger FMIC's ). so we're stepping off the deep end here with 20#+ of boost. Been keeping track of your own posts as well so any info-sharing U'd care to do will be greatly appreciated.

As for the tranny, Tim @ SFR says that they have their own clutch packs for our trannies so they install those plus redo the valve body for firmer shifts & finally mod the T/C for whatever stall U specify. John & I have decided that 3k rpms would allow the motor to flash-stall into the lower end of it's powerband & since I'd already had Level 10 restall mine to that stall speed 2 years ago I can save a little $$ by going with it as it is. The L10 V/B mod, however, doesn't shift as firmly as I'd like so Tim said they can re-mod it into SFR's specs. The cost is roughly $3750 ( & the 4L80E setup was $4200 ) so U can see it's a wash price-wise.
Here's Tim's reply email to John & myself:
Note the power level John's throwing around!!!!

We put in new clutch packs with different clearances.Modify the valve body and do the convertor. The valvebody is responsible for the shifting firmness. It does help quite a bit.We can set up the stall of the convertor the way you want.

Can you guys tell me what you do to these trannies and do you have any means of adjusting shift points and firmness?

Word has it you guys have a transmission upgrade available forthe Nissan 5AT for 350z/G35 that is capable of withstanding 1000+HP. I have a 5AT customer that we are going well beyond the limitations of the factory trans to the tune of 700 w/100 shot. Looking to do complete swap for GM L80e over drivetranny with stand alone TCM but that’s only if no one has anything to beef up the factory tranny.

Thanks

John Isbell

I have to ask Dereck from DSport what clearance is needed in front of the motor to bolt on the cog pulley to the crank shaft . The AT5 radiator may not allow for it . If thats the case , a new radiator and remote tranny cooler will have to be fitted first .
