Anyone FI with stock rims and stock exhaust?
Anyone FI with stock rims and stock exhaust?
Forgive my newbie question....
If some one were to go FI, maybe a vortech supercharger for example;
Would it be feasible to still be using the stock OEM 19 inch rims?
Or would aftermarket rims be a must to gain more traction?
Also, with a supercharger....would it be ok to still use the stock exhaust? I know an aftermarket exhaust would probably net more power, but could you still be ok with the stock exhaust?
Thanks a lot,
Mike

I have stock 18"s and the stock exhaust minus the cats. My kit actually dynoed best with the stock exhaust. The cats were deleted as part of the kit. I would like to keep my stock wheels and go with fatter tires. There is a member on here who had his stock wheels widened to get some fatter rubber on. I may look into the same. I actually like the way the car looks stock.
I WAS running stock 19's w/245 Nitto 555's, from day one traction was a huge issue! It was almost if I had wasted my money on FI. I stepped back down to 18's with 275 Toyo T1R's...still spins BUT a huge improvement! As far as exhaust...I have a Fuji cat back and that's it. Looking back doing the headers, HF cats ot TP and a Y pipe would have been better. But it does give me something to add later plus the retune for more power. If you go FI and have the proper tune, just remember you can't (shouldn't) bolt on any other stuff before getting after it's done until it is re-tuned. With the FI you have to be very carefull with A/F ratios, too lean and BOOM!

You might net like 20whp more with a better flowing exhaust and test pipes, but the gains aren't as good as if you were running a TT or ST application where you can gain 40+whp. So to answer your question yes you can run the vortech with stock exhaust.

I have the APS TT and I was running the stock exhaust up to a few days ago. I replaced the exhaust with APS 2-1/2" TD exhaust and Labree testpipes. I gained about 100rwhp with just these 2 mods and gained 4psi of boost instantly. I dynoed it to 450rwhp. I kid you not, I have videos to proove it! The difference in power is just incredible. So, that speaks for itself...
As for tires, yes, I still have the stocker 18". Traction is a major issue, I can spin all of third and some of fourth gear.

I run stock exhaust on my Procharger. It worries me, its almost like I can feel the exhaust holding it back, your pushing so much more air through and not getting any to come out... but you also want SOME back pressure [I suppose] so I plan on getting the Labree Testpipes also and seeing what the gain is....
I will be running on stock tires with my Vortech setup. My exhaust is pretty similar to stock (HKS Legamax, same design as stock but lighter) and I am running labree cats. I am thinking of widening my stock wheels and tires once I run out of tread. I run out of traction as is around a auto-x course easily. Don't know how I'm going to manage more power with skinny stock tires.
