I'm currently debating something similar (SC vs staying NA). From those that i've talked to and what i've noticed...once you boost your always going to hunger for more. If your going for good reliability at a not too insane cost, then I would definately say SC. Though since you have no budget there is no reason not to go twins (much much funner from what ive heard ).

If you dont have budget, then consider building your motor. Otherwise knowing how much to spend and whats your power goals, will help determine which kit to go with. Several kits have pros and cons and if your concerned with carb approved kits ( since your in Cali ), it will limit your choice to only couple SC kits. Definitely do your homework and also do some search at my350zforum.

vortech or turbonetics.. maybe stillen w/ that budget. stillen = warranty. vortech = more power than stillen but slight chance of booming. turbonetics is probably the best option but still has a slight chance of booming. What am i saying, they all have a slight chance of booming!

With $6300 for kit and install, then a TT is out of the ball park. Probably Turbonetics ST and SC kits should be affordable in your price range. First thing is find a reliable shop thats experience with FI installation. In your area, If you go with Stillen SC then have Stillen do the install since your very close to Stillen. If you chose Vortech, might try GT motorsports, they've done several FI install in Z's and G's. If you can afford to spend little more then go APS ST, Brainstorm and GT can install and tune the unichip.

if i were to do it again I'd go straight to a turbo... the super charger was nice but turbo are the shiznitz!

but if you're not going to build your engine, don't get to greedy on the power levels you push, sub 400hp/tq will give you enough power for now, then in the future you could still build your engine & then increase your boost levels.

First there is no such thing as reliable even on stock boost, ask most of the built motor on MY350Z. Second $6300 will only get you the parts you need to make it safe, and another 1000-1500 for install. before you decide what kit to get, please think twice first and ask your self if you're ready just in case you blow your motor, do you have enough money to build it?. If you have accepted all of this then go ahead and pick the kit you want, but 6300 will only be enough to get your self all the parts you need (Turbo/SC kit, guages) except if you're doing the install and Tune yourself.

Rule of thumb (price of kit/install/Tune) + another ($2000-$5000) just in case sh|t happens, and believe me sh|t will happen.

oh, also add some more for your Clutch+Install around $800-1400 (with flywheel).

yeah i'd say stillen, vortech, or turbonetics ST

personally i'd skip the stillen because it isn't very upgradable, and don't like the hoods so much

you might bet better off with turbonetics if you're looking for the most power for the smallest $ amount

Ivory I drove Randys_G and then went straight back and drove my TT G just for a comparison and man for the money a TT blows an SC out of the water. A great tune helps. Tell your tuner to stay conservative and you may leave some power on the table but your chances of blowing the motor will be reduced.

what was randy's setup and whp etc?

most people with SC's don't really push their setup very hard to get a lot of power out of them

Both set ups have pros and cons. Think about how you drive and what you want before you spend a nickel. And if you cannot afford to blow it up and replace it...don't do it.

I ran an ATI Procharger with 7psi for 23,000 miles and no problems on the VQ.
Now I have a built motor and a JWT prototype TT. They drive very very differently.
Both excellent, but very different.

I have the Vortech. When I was doing my research there wasn't the Turbo options like there are today. With today's options I may have gone with one of the single Turbo setups.

I really like the plug and play of the Vortech. I've had it for almost 2 years and I'm still on the stock belt hitting 8lbs of boost. It's a pretty simple setup and seems to be doing fine. Sure, I would like more horespower, but I think everyone does. It's kind of like money, you never have enough.

My only downside is the noise at idle. I really hate going through a drive thru.

I'm not much of a mechanic, so it suits me just fine. So I put up with the noise and have a ball when I flying down the road or doing the twisties in the mountains. I probably have a little over 6k invested in FI.

Good Luck!
