My Predictions for 2009

From what I can asses, here are my predictions for Nissan/Infiniti for 2009...

-G35 Sedan becomes G37 Sedan, gets VQ37VHR, 330HP
-G37 Coupe gets more power, 350HP
-Nissan 370Z gets updated G37 Coupe motor, also at 350HP
-M37 and FX37 receive the G37 Sedan motor, 330HP
-M50 and FX50 get all new 5.0L V8
-New 6AT reveiled, will be standard on M,G,FX, and new Z.
-Possible concept of the new Q.

What the G37 now? 330hp? Hard to bump another 20hp like that. Maybe if they do the "rev up" thing. LOL. I think the motor needs to be punched for 4.0 liters to get 350hp out of it.

G37 sedan sounds great. Hope that happens.

good thoughts on the auto tranny. I think the dual clutch auto ala VW is the next auto. I hope so.

So why do you think the G coupe will get a 20 hp+? Especially considering that bump would come only a year after its release. Just curious.

I like the sound of everything else though. I think the two biggest additions in March will be thee new six speed auto and VVEL V8.

Because the coupe has always had more power. I believe thats always been Infiniti's way of justifying the price increase from the coupe to the sedan.

True, true. I just have a hard time believing Infiniti would up power after only one year in existence. Though, I guess, it has happened before.

The VQ still has some room left in it, you gotta remember, the VQ has yet to see Direct Injection, which has without a doubt proven to increase fuel economy, power, and response.

DI. True. I expect to see DI coming also. Probably good for 10-20% increase in hp

Good predictions Chili. I agree with all of them, except for the G35 Sedan getting the VHR & the G37/370Z getting bumped to 350hp.

Maybe, but why go through the trouble of engineering the 35HR if it's only going to be supplanted in two years? I'd say there's a greater chance that the G35 Sedan will get the Coupe's VVEL system and a slight bump in power, but I don't see a G37 Sedan happening just yet.

No. Not after one year. Next.

Doubtful. This would make the 3.8L JDM 380RS seem like a waste. Besides, if Nissan went through the trouble of putting the 3.7L into the Z for '09, that means the car would stick around until at least '10. Why waste money in the engineering department by throwing a new motor under the hood for the last model year? And why change the name of the car to 370Z before its life is almost up? It makes more sense to do a name change with a new generation. It's time for the Z to get a redesign plain and simple. I doubt Nissan would extend the current Z33's life another year when it's already past due for a makeover.

Yes and no. With the debut of the 2nd gen FX right around the corner, an FX37 is very likely. As for an M37...no. Unless Nissan has plans to keep the current M around until '10, then no. There's no way they'd put the 3.7L in the M for '09, only to have the entire model replaced in '10, and all speculation at the moment points towards a new M in '10. The biggest indication that an '08 M37 will not happen is the fact that the '08 JDM Fuga just got the 35HR this year.

An '09 FX50 yes. An '09 M50...I doubt it. Again with a new model supposedly coming in '10, why waste money shoehorning a new V8 into the '09 M only to have it replaced by a new model in '10? And if history has anything to teach us, it's that manufacturers try to introduce new body styles and new engines simultaneously. If they can't, the body style usually comes first followed by the new motor. Case in point BMW and its E90 3-Series. The E90 Sedan body came a full year and a half before the 3.0L twin turbo motor arrived. Same thing with Lexus. The 3rd gen GS hit the market in '06, in '07 the 300 was replaced by the 350 and for '08 the 430 was replaced by the 460.

Very likely we'll see a 6A/T or possibly a 7A/T. Jatco supposedly unveiled a new 7A/T they're working on for large RWD applications.

https://g35driver.com/forums/future-models/188125-nissan-jatco-7-speed-automatic-transmission.html

However, while there's a good chance it or a smaller 6A/T will find its way into the '09 FX, it will NOT find its way into the G, M or Z. Again the Z and M are so close to their redesigns that it's not worth the cost of R&D to try and fit the trans into these cars. With that being said there's no way Nissan would throw a trans with more gears into the G without it first going into the FX AND the M. And since it'll more than likely only show up in the FX, it's doubtful the G will get it as well. It's call trickle down for a reason, not trickle up.

Maybe, maybe not. Any new flagship Nissan/Infiniti conjures up this time around needs to come to the party packing everything necessary to take down the Lexus LS. That means a LOT of R&D and a huge investment for a vehicle that sells in relatively small numbers. And with people's perception that Infiniti is still a cut below BMW, MB and Lexus, I don't think they'll risk it. They need to build rapport with customers first and prove that they can build a capable 3 and 5 Series fighter before they take on the 7.

My 2 cents.

I'll agree with this part.

Nissan uses the same 5A in all its FM-platform vehicles so I'm also willing to wager that it will be in the G35/G37 in another 2-3 years.

:lol, Ok......I see a factory twin turbo in a Infiniti too... 335i watch out!

It will boast to be a high performance 4.2 sec car and have an AWD drive option....and it will start at $45k....to 49k... It will put Infiniti in the aggressor role again since the G35 was introduced in 2002...

Plus the sedan will bring back the stacked headlight look back in a sleeker form...

Am I dreaming or what?

Plus it can be easily modded to hit 0 to 60 in 3.9 secs.

Can you imagine how this place would go nuts? :lol...

If any of you Infiniti folks are reading this post....this is basically what we dream about here..

Most likely this will happen in the next 4 to 5 years.....IMO.
