Missed 3rd to 4th, turned into 3rd to 2nd...Ouch

Well I was screwing around and went to shift from 3rd to 4th at about 6k, and just caught the gate into second- I know seems difficult to do, but I managed to do it . By the time I realized it the clutch release was already in motion, the tires broke loose for a second, the VDC cut the power, I caught my error about the same time and released the clutch, and put it in 4th. I saw the tach in the 7400 to 7500 range and dropping off by the time I got a chance to look at the Tach, I do't think it was much higher than that if any higher at all..... Everything seems OK, Do you think it did any damage? I've read allot that the 7100 to 7200 RPM is not really an issue for these motors.

It is possible, it all depends on how fast you caught it and got your foot on the clutch. This type of mis-shift can completly destroy an engine. The rev limiter in the car will do nothing to protect you as it is a mechanical link between the spinning tires and the engine. Does it drive okay and idle properly? If you don't notice any probs you may have dodged a bullet there. I would recomend a mechanic look it over if you think it is warrented.

btw, does anyone know if the VQ is an interference type engine?

It idles Fine and runs fine, I don't notice anything different with the way the car is running. My guess is that if something was wrong I would have seen it almost immediately.
If there a problem was to develop, I've read that on some cars the ECU records the Max RPM, Does the G do that?

I used to shift from 3rd to 2nd every now and then just casually driving. But the way that I shift now from 3rd to 4th, it goes into 4th 100% of the time. I would put my right palm on the front of the shift **** with the fingers pointing towards the passenger door and just pull back towards you. It'll feel like it's going to go into 2nd but it won't and I have never had another misshift again. Try it out.
