i just installed my springs and did the rear first and jacked from diff and put jack stands and car didn't roll away.

Is it safe to use the aluminium/magnesium differential casing to support the car on the lifting jack during the leverage? Is there any "steel" braket to put the jack under? I dont beleive these "casting" are that strong...

From the past on other car I was doing "side to side" but at a certain height (around 10 inches) car wanted to slide of jack...not fun

 

Only the diff cover is alum.
The housing is steel.

Side to side there is more chance of it falling because of the shorter distance.,
& more extreme angle on the first set of jacks.

Front to rear is more stable because of the length of the wheel base.
& yes lift the front first, then the rear

Don't forget to reverse this order when putting the wheels back on the ground.

 

Go to a your local junkyard, and get a pair of wheel chocks from any Nissan of the '80s, and early '90. The ones from a S13 is even better - they are foldable, and very compact, and lightweight.

While you are jacking up the rear, place the chocks to the front end of the tires (assume you are on a level surface, but who will jack up half a car on a slope anyway) to prevent the car from rolling to the front.

I don't understand why the new cars don't come with those anymore. I have 4 pairs of those sitting in the garage. I don't jackup any cars without placing them properly first.

The easiest way is to go to your friends shop and place it on a lift

 

Front first then rear like someone said. Lift from the lifting points and you'll be fine. It cant roll away because when you lift the wheels on the jack will roll to keep it centered. Don't be scared as long as the jacks are seated correctly, it's not a problem. If you're too low drive up onto some 2x4's or 4x4's and then jack from there. You can make a wedge so driving up will be easier. Now I hope that helps. When you go swimming to you think of "Jaws"

My car is on stock suspension, and my jack barely fits under the front. What kind of jack you using? I noticed floor jacks come in all sorts of sizes.I've seen jacks with low lift capabilities, but the jack housing is still tall towards the back.That's the part on mine that touches the lower-engine cover. (Tallest part of my el-cheapo jack is 6"... I've seen low-profile aluminum jacks, that have the back portion of the jack being close to 7")

Pain in the butt, because it fits, but then you only have like 1" to move the bar up and down. Using a screwdriver gets tiring to jack the jar up

That's why I bought an air-assisted floor jack to hopefully remedy that. I'll let you know how that works, as it arrives next week.
