Different distributors carry different grades, but they all market high-octane fuels as "better" for all cars, when this is not in fact true. Most cars will not take advantage of higher-octane fuels than they are tuned for by the factory (i.e., the minimum recommended grade specified in the owner's manual).
Just pick 91 (or the next higher available) and you'll get just what you need for your G.

Older engines normally running regular might need premium if they have a lot of deposits on the pistons. As these may preignite the fuel charge. But modern oils and fuels leave fewer deposits than cars years ago.
Premium is not giving you MORE performance, just the performance your engine is designed and tuned for. But yes, regular would give it LESS, in this case. As timing would be cut back to prevent detonation.

+1, they have by far the best pump gas on the market.
You get better gas mileage with better gas, so why would you pay for a lesser grade?
I use premium in my 93 hatchback civic, when gas is cheaper. about 3.15 or less a gallon for 91 premium. when it went up crazy I switched to regular 87 octane. ran like crap, didn't get as good mileage. gas is going back down so I'm gonna go back to premium. by my house they have 102 octane but for 4.85 a gallon no thanks. I'll stick to 76's 91 premium gas. in cali almost all stations carry up to 91 octane.
so is shell better then 76, because the 76 is 3 blocks away and the shell is at the corner of my street. both use 91 octane here in cali and shell usually gets cheaper before 76 does by a day or two
You know, the funny thing is the G manual says 91 or above, but the FX manual (I have an 05 G and an 05 FX), says that you can use regular. Funny, I thought they had the exact same engine, minus a couple of tuning differences. Go figure.

That's really odd. Were's the next grade down? 89? Here in Southern Cali, it's 87, 89, and 91 (premium). I've only used the top three Mobile, Chevron, and Shell. I like Mobile and Chevron the best and mostly fill up on Mobile Premium.
