I finally got mine programmed. For anyone reading this in the future, this may help out.

My Genie opener came with two full-sized remotes, and one keychain remote. In my experience, you can't set up the homelink system with the keychain remote. I tried that about 15 times. Then I changed over to the full sized remote, an it worked the first time. It appears that the keychain remote works fine with the opener, but not as a source for the signal when programming the homelink mirror.

^ that is all i did, and it works.
and u don't even need to be close to the garage, all u need is the remote.

I didn't read through the thread (yeah, I'm lazy) but on our garage door opener we had to use the "clear" procedure in the owner's manual and then use the programming procedure on the garage door opener itself. The procedure outlined in the manual WOULD NOT work for our opener.
