My comments about the 2003 G35 nav system
#17
It's a 10-year old NAV system so what can you reasonably expect? My 06 has a different software version, so it operates differently. I don't know if it's an improvement or not over the 03-05 system.
Compared to modern GPS....it's outdated. The GPS in my Benz is voice controlled. Everything is done by speaking and it has traffic updates. So when I hope back in my G35, I find myself using my iPhone and letting Siri guide me turn by turn vs using my GPS.
I used to leave the Nav screen up all the time in my car...now I just leave it down. If I go somewhere where I don't want to use my phone, but need GPS, I'll stick a garmin on the dash and use my NAV screen for fuel economy
Those pf your without GPS, your not missing much. My next car I buy for myself will not have GPS unless it's required for some other cool feature that I want.

It seems cars normally don't provide some feature I want unless you go with the navigation system.
With my 2004, it was relatively minor. The MPG calculator (even though it displays about 1mpg higher than I actually get), maintenance schedule, and GPS clock.
If I could get the other features, and integration with an external GPS or phone for navi, it would be nice. But what? Pick a popular phone, and it may be a joke in the coming years. In 2006, for instance, it would probably have been a Windows Mobile phone. Real useful now![Smilie](https://g35driver.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
In 10 years, will iPhones still be popular? Samsung Galaxies? Or even if still around, an eternity in the phone industry, will they still be backward compatible with the cars?
