On the other hand, if there is no traffic, keeping it under 3K will save quite a bit and around 3K is much more fun than 2K. Unless I'm playing I shift around 2500-3000 for normal acceleration.
Also, in traffic im in 6th around 38MPH, the car can maintain that without 'lugging' but you will need to down-shift if traffic accelerates quickly. I have gotten as much as 26MPG on my weekly commute doing this and there is no need for higher revolutions because of cars in front of you. (24 average most weekdays).

Wow!
Hey all,
I'm a new owner of an 07 G35 6MT and after reading this thread yesterday I figured I would do a little testing myself. This is my second tank of gas on the car, and as must of us know, when an engine is this new, it's fuel economy is not the best at all, however, I got some very surprising numbers! I pulled an 80 mile trip and the car consumed merely 1/8th of a tank (actually a little less according to the needle). Now, if we do some simple math, while a tank can hold 20 gal., 1/8th of a tank ends up being 2.5 gal., and 80 miles divided by 2.5 gives the great number of 32 miles/gal!!! I'm very impressed myself, as I just stepped up from a 2.0 4-banger (S2000), and I thought that the ~30 miles/gal that I was getting on that car were good.
The better number from the G35 is due to the fact that the torque on this car allows for a better 6th gear ratio for highway travelling, while the s2000 cruised at 4000rpm when doing 70mph.
Anyhow, I figured I would share this with you guys, since a lot of people are claiming that this car is not that good on gas mileage.

As for the person who started the tread, making lots of quick trips will yield poor mpg. Your car doesn't run efficiently when it's cold (oil doesn't flow as easily, warming cats etc,) so when you make a quick 5 minute trip it might only be warmed up for 1/2 the trip and hence poor mpg figures will result.

By the way, I'm not posting for the sake of argument, I just wanted to pass some information accross and let everyone interested in the topic know that not all G35's are bad on gas. At least mine isn't, and I'm getting a good week to week and a half per tank. I move around a lot, but I'm shifting at around 2.5k-3k.

Another point needed to figure in here is manual trans vs auto. Mnal always get bettermileae because of the final ratio being lower than an auto trans. Add in your driving style, emperature and humidity and we are gonna see fluctuations,
When my wife uses the suv (6speed automatic) she gets (according to the on board computer) between 11 and 13 mpg, I can drive the suv and average 15.5.
We just got out 07 GCoupe automatic a few days ago, I'll be watching the mpg carefully.

Don't use the fuel gauge. Instead, reset your trip meter after every fill up. Then every time you fill up (make sure it clicks twice), divide the miles on your trip meter by the gallons you put in your tank. Take an average of 4-5 tanks. You might be getting high 20's on the hwy but at the pump your overall mpg will most likely be in the low 20's, maybe closer to mid 20's if it's more hwy driving.
BTW, my last tank on my 5.5L AMG got 23.6mpg and that is mostly hwy driving.
