true... there's a sucker born ever minute - so it probably works on someone. I suppose for convenience sake - someone that wasn’t concerned about the price would do it... My dad was like that... he wouldn’t even bother with negotiating. He'd find the car he wanted and pay sticker price - done. So in that context I guess conceptually it's okay.

So maybe it's good for some people... not me though. I'll take however much time is necessary to get a fair deal. Also take the time to sell for reasonable price.

I suspect it works quite well, or dealers wouldn't keep doing it.

Some people are probably already thinking of getting a new car, but they're worried about what they'll get for theirs. Then they get this. Seems worth a trip to the dealer to check it out...

It's not worth it if you want to get the most for your used car and buy a new for as little as possible. The will either low-ball you on your existing car or gouge you on the new. Simple as that. The only way it's worthwhile is if you like the convenience of it. You WILL NOT get the best deal this way, guaranteed.

Just email the sales guy something like this:

Hi There

I am so excited about your offer that I share my news with the biggest infiniti online community in the world. There is some skeptics but I told them that you will offer me a great deal on my trade in and new purchases. Since I want to prove the critics wrong, if you can give me the price of my trade-in and the price of the new vehicle up front then I post them in the website saying <Dealer's name> is not a fault.

I got this same letter but from a Nissan Dealership where I got my oil changed once. I also got this from a Toyota Dealership as well. From the looks of things, the dealership isn't even sending these out, it is a mass mail distributor that has you on a mailing list. I'm sure Nissan, Toyota, or Infiniti gives them our info (I have a family member that owns Toyotas) and they will take car of everything.

This is common practice at most any dealership these days. It's become pretty popular practice in the past 5 years or so.

I just got another one a few days ago (3rd or 4th overall)... I have no idea what it said because it went straight in the round file.

Dealerships sometimes go at cross purposes. Sell you an extended warranty when you buy the car, then wonder why 3 years later you aren't rushing in to replace the car.

As I mentioned last time I was asked, I mentioned I wasn't in the market yet since I still had several years to go on the extended warranty.

Guess the extra money at the front, and the hope you will forget about it 3 years later (when you are still in the factory warranty).

It's a boilerplate letter... goes out to everyone... they don’t have any idea you bought an extended warranty. Its just bulk mailed to everyone.
